I would still rather know that someone tried to help instead of just dialing 911 and standing around while watching a child suffer. 911 is minutes away when seconds are all that are left (thanks Martin Inc. for the abuse of your tag line).
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.
"Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the Government take care of him; better take a closer look at the American Indian." - Henry Ford
Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges; When the Republic is at its most corrupt the laws are most numerous. - Publius Cornelius Tacitus

Freedom is great...but it can be a problem when given to children who do not understand the consequences of their actions.
So now we're suppose to hold kids to the same high standard of common sense as we do adults? You missed the point by a mile archer. A 10 day suspension and possible expulsion? Do you really believe either child had some sort of bad motive and deserve that kind of action? Common sense tells me that you sit down with both kids and explain the potential harm of what they did. I really doubt this is some sort of growing trend where we need to set an example.
The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Were the only options in this situation to use the inhaler or stand around and watch the child suffer? I guess I missed the part of the article where she was seconds from death....
Whats strange here is I agree with most of you on how these kids are being treated...I don't think expulsion or even a long suspension is warranted ..but I'm surprised you take what could have been a serious problem so lightly.....

And kids play with matches and burn down houses, jump bicycles down stairways and break bones, and have also been known to take out eyes with sticks and bb guns. Kids do stupid stuff all the time and you can't go nuts everytime they do. That's why it often sucks to be a parent of these walking time bombs.

Yes they do....I raised one of those, she has broken more bones than any other 10 kids combined....and as a mother I made the best of it, got her medical attention, admired her courage, realized that I couldn't wrap her in cotton.....and carried on. If, however, she had broken another kids bones, or caused harm to another child through her own carelessness......there would have been consequences to that behavior. Yeah they are kids.....but they also need to be taught about the consequences. These were not 6 and 7 year olds.
I think that's all I need to convey on this thread......it is my opinion, others may have a different opinion.....but if my kids had burned down a house I would have more to say about it than "kids will be kids".
Do we know the entire (truthful) story yet ? [sarcasm]Not that I don't believe 2 middle school kids about not sharing drugs. [sarcasm]
The University of Michigan News Service featured an article about a new study looking at the prevalence of inhaler abuse in teenagers. The study in question was performed by researchers at the U of M using 723 adolescents in thirty-two treatment facilities. The study reports that "nearly one out of four teens who use an asthma inhaler say their intent is to get high".
If it was as simple as the story makes it sound, then expulsion is way overboard. But, if it is found that the inhaler was just being passed around to catch a buzz, then bye-bye.
The baseless broad brush "Zero tolerance policies designed by lazy liberal adults" comment is expected and typical.
