:VeryScared: Just pray out that broken leg.

More serious: Congress already has given exemptions to Obamacare fines if they are Amish or certain other religions. So it looks like a precedent is already out there before the courts even rule on it.

No one has been given an exemption yet. No precedent has been set. See...

Obama won't backpedal unless he sees his polls going down bec ause of this...if they do, he will fold like a cheap tent.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Although:

A USA Today poll released Tuesday showed that 58 percent of Catholics support compulsory contraceptive insurance. That figure rose to 62 percent among Catholic women.

That's not going to matter much. The laity in the Catholic Church do not set policy. The Catholic hierarchy is going to fight this tooth and nail. And the Church has a lot of money and influence. And it's not just the Catholic Church. There has already been outcry from other denominations. I don't think this is going to just go away, and it may really have an effect on the 2012 election.

Did you read the Snopes piece you quoted? Obamacare appears to lay a groundwork in which religious groups like the Amish would easily be able to get out of its restrictions.
But you are right, there has been no ruling on this passage yet, just a tradition of the Amish being exempt from other goverment mandates like Social Security.

Yes Fred... I did read the article I linked to... that was sort of how I was able to make the statement "No precedent has been set".

How times have changed
When JFK was running for president people worried that the Catholic church would have too much influence on US policy
Now it appears some are asking for the Catholic church to do just that...shape US policy.

the church itself appears to be exempt from the mandates, but the businesses of the church like Catholic hospitals, one sixth of those in the nation and Catholic schools and universities seem to be the real issue. But don't worry archer, Joe biden says he will bring the parties together.

I know this is beating a dead horse, but this whole issue is missing the larger point -as explained in this article. The easy solution would be to have these mandated benefits available as optional add-on coverages. Insurance is not for small predictable expenses.

The Real Trouble With the Birth-Control Mandate
Critics are missing the main point. There are good reasons that your car-insurance company doesn't add $100 to your premium and then cover oil changes.

Are you equating an abortion with an oil change? In an oil change, you remove something and replace it with something new and fresh. In an abortion you get rid of a fetus and replace it with nothing. That articles analogy stinks.
