Are we at 285bound.com under surveillance?

22 Mar 2012 13:05 - 22 Mar 2012 13:29 #1 by BearMtnHIB

It should be perfectly clear. Whether you’re a prepper, alternative news buff, or none of the above, the government wants to know what you’re doing. No one is immune to the surveillance state.

We’re all suspects now.

They’re watching.

Big Brother is watching- but as long as you don't do anything wrong- you shouldn't have anything to worry about...

If there ever existed individuals and groups that threatened the status quo it’s now, and they can often be found congregating at alternative news web sites, forums and preparedness oriented online communities. Government officials at the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI have done everything in their power to marginalize their dangerous ideas and activities going so far as to even issue security bulletins to private businesses like banks, surplus stores, coffee shops and other retailers outlining what employees should look for and when to say something to law enforcement officials.

We even have threads which deal with the question of what will we do to prepare for an emergency event.

Activities like putting a Ron Paul bumper sticker on your car, paying cash, buying gold, stocking up on food, promoting “anti-U.S.” and “radical theologies,” and demanding personal privacy are all now considered to be suspicious in the eyes of a government hell bent on destroying the Constitution.

A recent report from well known survival author James Rawles suggests that Preparedness oriented web sites are a prime target of government snooping and sniffing.

Will knowing that they are watching us make you act any differently? Will it make you rethink you're words twice before you post? For me- I don't think it changes a thing- I hide all the really good stuff with encryption.

By the way:

List reveals keywords feds monitor on Facebook, Twitter

So what sort of words and phrases are the DHS subcontractors looking for while monitoring social media sites?

They're looking for mentions of words and phrases related to government agencies ("Department of Homeland Security," "Homeland Defense," "agent," "task force," air marshal"), domestic security ("assassination," "attack," "cops," dirty bomb," "shooting"), hazardous materials ("hazmat," "nuclear," "chemical spill," "leak") and health concerns ("flu," "ebola," "contamination," "virus," "small pox").

Also on the list of IOI are terms related to infrastructure security ("airport," "subway," "critial infrastructure," "transportation security"), Southwest border violence ("drug cartel," "drug," "gang," "decapitated"), terrorism ("Pakistan," "target," "weapons grade," "biological weapon," "Taliban," "suicide attack"), emergency situations ("hurricane," "extreme weather," "brush fire," "power outage," "blizzard"), and cyber security ("malware," "virus," "trojan," "phreaking," scammers").

The words listed above are just some of the IOI-related keywords listed in the documents obtained by EPIC. You can check out the full list on Animal, where Joel Johnson has compiled all the relevant terms.

Just try to avoid laughing when you notice that yes, "the Department of Homeland Security is searching social media for … "social media.""

Its not just the Gubment watching your posts, so is your employer.

Right now Goldman Sachs is searching all the company emails for "muppet" after that exec whistler blower quit recently.

I imagine it is really a computer algorithm reading thru the bazillions of gigabytes of network traffic, searching for patterns, not a single word. The analysts probably only check out a very tiny fraction of the data during an investigation.

If you want to be, press one. If you want not to be, press 2

I've posted this in a related thread in The Courtroom, but for what it's worth:

I deal almost exclusively in cash, I keep less than $200 in the bank at any time for any reason.

I have very few familial ties.

I pay for my coffee in cash every morning.

I have extreme views on many topics, one being that the government should never make a decision for me unless my decisions directly cause someone else physical or financial harm. As such, I have extreme views on police, and the rule of law.

Through a miscommunication at my workplace, I was asked my opinion on what to do with "excess supplies" at supply depots that we use in the Middle East, even though I do not work there.

I have a felon in my immediate family, and have been told over and over about the raw deal the courts gave him, and the toll it has taken on my family.

Are you scared yet? I could be your next door neighbor.

Do I think I'm being watched? Sure I do, why wouldn't you The FBI has made public files on many people who have died recently, and not because they were "watchable", but because they had power and power is scary for a government that wants to ensure you stay powerless.

And yet... if you ever meet me, none of these things would define me as a person. I'm just your typical person, I go to work every morning, I pay my taxes at the end of the year... and I scrape by for my living, buidling a savings, dreaming of owning a home, and growing old enough to retire comfortably and maybe even have a few kids.

You should always assume you're being watched, but don't worry too much. The real problem that the government has is that when they set boundaries like this, we all become "watchable", and they can't possibly watch us all.

Actually it might be doing some good when it monitors the crazy ELF and OWS supportes. Probably prevents a few rapes and SUV torching.
