Unanimous: Obama Budget Defeated 414-0

FYI

In a rare instance of bipartisanship, President Barack Obama's reckless $3.6 trillion budget for next year was defeated 414-0 late last night on the House Floor.

Republicans said Democrats were afraid to vote for Obama's proposed tax increases and extra spending for energy and welfare. Democrats said Republicans had forced a vote on a version of Obama's budget that contained only its numbers, not the policies he would use to achieve them.

In February, Guy reported the dirty details of the Obama budget and even the Associated Press was willing to admit the Obama budget is anything but responsible.

Taking a pass on reining in government growth, President Barack Obama unveiled a record $3.8 trillion election-year budget plan Monday, calling for stimulus-style spending on roads and schools and tax hikes on the wealthy to help pay the costs. The ideas landed with a thud on Capitol Hill.

You're going to have to do better than that Obama.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Republican-run House has overwhelmingly rejected President Barack Obama's $3.6 trillion budget for next year after a vote forced by GOP lawmakers to embarrass Democrats.

And it worked... the Dems caved. They know the budget stinks. Thanks for pointing that out.

I was pointing out it was a purely partisan move, but apparently that was lost on you.

Because the vote was for a budget before they knew what the numbers were for. It wasn't a complete budget proposal. Apparently the Republicans wanted them to vote on it now and read it later.

Where have I heard that before?

Probably the last time the Democrats caved on voting for something they claim they support.

In slightly earlier news...

The House voted decisively late Wednesday to reject a bipartisan budget mixing tax increases with spending cuts to wring $4 trillion from federal deficits over the coming decade.

The 382-38 roll call paved the way for Republicans to muscle through their own, more stringent budget on Thursday, a measure that would blend deeper spending reductions in safety-net programs for the poor with a plan to dramatically overhaul Medicare. The vote also underscored the partisan polarization dominating Washington this election year, with leaders of both parties showing little inclination to compromise and let the other side claim a victory.

The bipartisan measure rejected Wednesday was patterned on a plan by President Barack Obama's 2010 deficit commission and was written by moderate Reps. Steve LaTourette, R-Ohio, and Jim Cooper, D-Tenn.

"This is the only bipartisan way to solve the nation's problems," Cooper said.

"When you know you have a good deal is when the left and right are pounding the snot out of you, and that's what's happening today," LaTourette said.

Oh, out was a bi-partisan budget drafted by a dem and a republican? I wonder why that was not mentioned by the OP?
