LJ- I'm still lookin out for the day that you might actually want to have a discussion about an issue- instead of just spewing out your leftist drivel.
Is it not best for the economy- both the economy as a whole- and the individual's economy- for us to have a sustainable system of education? A system where students are not fooled by teachers and schools into thinking that they can provide for a family on a liberal arts degree?
I think every school should show every starting student what they can expect to earn per year with their degree of choice. The schools should poll their graduates- ask them how much they are making with their journalism degree, english degree, sociology or political science degree- and disclose this information. And they should disclose the average income of their graduates- not just the 1 in 100 who got a cushy job teaching the same liberal art for 140K/year.
The guy who gets a liberal arts degree is not only doing himself a disservice- but he becomes a drag on all the rest of us for the rest of his life. It starts with the 100K he owes on those student loans that he can not pay back.
Then he can't find a decent job with his skills- and winds up either flippin burgers or needing to get some additional practical skills which will allow him to make a living.
Then throughout his career- he needs the government to subsidize his housing, food, medical and other life expenses. When he gets old- he depends 100% on the government because his low income career didn't produce enough wealth to retire on.
Because he had bad advise, and made bad choices- he spent the same energy it requires to get a valuable education- and instead wound up with a worthless one.
And this government- this rotten excuse for a government- their solution to this problem is to perpetuate the same system that caused all this mess to begin with- in fact- subsidize a lousy system with taxpayer money. Money that comes from people who made better choices.
This is not a solution to this problem- it's kicking the can down the road and keeping the bad players at the expense of the good players.
So we punish the smart people who made good career choices- the ones who are the producers in our society- by stealing their money and giving it to the idiots.
I explained that I was changing the quote, but if it will make you happy, I won't edit LJ's posts when she whines that Americans are under fascist rule.
