Favorite President & Why?

Who was your favorite President and what did he do that you really approved of? And also what were his biggest miscues?

I choose Reagan for turning around the Stagflation & malaise of the Carter years. His big mistake? Amnesty. It gives all the illegals hope that it will happen again.

rofllol Irony? I didn't vote for the man. I was in my more idealistic younger phase and supported the Libertarian candidate in 2000 & 2004.

Reagan for me too.

He turned around an economy that was headed for hell in a hand basket. Inflation was out of control. It was my first time voting - my generation was really wondering if we would ever be able to buy a house of our own.

He restored our faith in the military - while keeping us out of a major war - he instilled fear in the hearts of our enemies. Iran returned our citizens, and Kadafi learned that his "line in the sand" was not such a great idea.

Communists and Socialists were on the run - the free market and capitalism gave us all opportunities for success. The Iron curtian was on it's way out - in large part because of Reagan. Socialism proved to be the ideology of losers - even China knew it.

We were proud to be Americans again. He said what he ment and ment what he said. My generation will not forget.

Reagan cut government spending where he could - many government "dead weight" employees had to find real jobs - the money we saved went into the hands of working class people and the economy improved quickly.

The only miscue I can think of is that he didn't push his agenda even harder. He could have cut more government spending - but he had a democratic congress to deal with in his second term.

All in all - a great American and a great president.

--He put the nation back to work with the economic recovery acts that turned around the Great Depression; Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA), Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), which built dams and power stations, controlled floods, and modernized agriculture and home conditions, Works Progress Administration (WPA)
--Repealed Prohibition
--Created the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) which instituted the minimum wage
--National Labor Relations Act
--Created Social Security Administration
--Led the country through WWII

Good choice. Washington set a very good precedent of only 2 terms. He is probably the most important president. Many others would have appointed themselves President-For-Life.

And I also think Lincoln was important because he he wanted to bring the southern states back into the nation instead of punishing them. too bad he died before achieving all his aims.

And FDR not for his poor economic decisions which extended the Great Depression until WWII, but for deciding that we needed to concentrate on fighting the Germans.

Those reasons seem a little superficial
Washington- Because he had better things to do
Lincoln- for doing the obvious thing to do- What were his alternatives, inslave the south? Do you think he was just being nice?
FDR- for one military decision? and probably the obvious one at the time

Washington "better things to do" He could made himself King or Pres .for life. He really wanted to set the stage for future presidents. Read some history before you mouth off about something you don't know much about.
