"Fitchburg, Wis. — Governor Scott Walker visited the Madison suburb of Fitchburg tonight, ending a long day that saw earlier stops in the Green Bay and Milwaukee. Before a crowd of about 50 volunteers, Walker delivered his usual stump speech, emphasizing the job gains and taxpayer savings the state has seen during his year-and-a-half tenure. It was his standard pitch, but to his fans here, who were manning the phones, it was well-received.

During his speech, one woman’s cell phone began ringing with a particularly obnoxious ring tone. Walker stopped and said “that’s opportunity calling,” prompting several in the room to laugh. “Some of the most fulfilling contacts I had today were with people who came up to me and said, ‘I voted for your opponent two years ago, but I’m voting for you now,’” Walker told the crowd. “And the reason they said that was because they couldn’t believe that someone could have the courage to take on the tough problems.”

Following his short talk, Walker met with reporters and responded to a press release issued by Wisconsin Democrats that urged him to provide “proof” he has been exonerated in a John Doe investigation of his former staffers. (Democrats are trying to make the case Walker is the target of the secret investigation; Walker has called those allegations “100-percent false.”)

“The Democrats are desperate,” Walker said. “They’ve got nothing else. We’ve answered this question a million different times, and they don’t want to talk about what this recall is really about.”

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Less than a handful of governors have been recalled. So far it looks like Wisconsin residents don't think goverment workers deserve better pay and benefits than the rest of us.

I think the problem in WI was not so much WHAT they did but HOW they did it - very abusive of power. I don't care WHO IS in office, they should never be allowed to go around the rules and protocol to do what THEY want and not what the PEOPLE want. The outside money and Koch brothers involvement show that a few that are already powerful can now OWN the gov't with their money and ads. I think the US is headed for very scary territory.

You could be right, maybe the goverment was bought, but the people do have the option of realizing their mistake and recalling the Gov. and electing replacements for the legislature who supported Walker.

Meg Whitman tried to buy an election in California and it didn't work, Gov. Brown won.

I understand your concern, but what you need to realize is that NOTHING will get done if we vote in politicians who don't want to take any heat. WI could very well end up like California which is totally screwed. Nobody wants to control government spending and the unions refuse to adjust their income and bennies, no matter how inefficient and big the gov't becomes.

You need to look at the deficit of WI before and after Walker, not to mention the huge savings for schools which actually saved jobs and lower property taxes which help everybody. If there was a Dem governor, what would the same picture look like now and what kind of future would that state have by going down the same losing path?
