As much as I do not like the current President, what he did is actually pretty much the same as what Bush did. I personally think they should reconize it every year even it is just a press release. Those WWII Vets earned that and more.
For the most part if you do some research on it, you will find that for the most part they celebrate it only on the major dates like the 50th or the 60th or the 65th etc. Clinton was there for the 50th anniversary (and a royal pain in my rear), but he was there.
Hey Navy....do we commemorate anything from the Viet Nam war? They do have special ceremonies at the memorial Wall, But I can't recall anything like a Pearl Harbor day, or D Day for that war.
What grinds my gears is that Barry was on an obvious fund raising run, he has spent a 1/3 of his time campaigning since he got elected. Had he stayed put in DC and made a token mention that today is the 68th anniversary of D Day, maybe I could have given him a pass. Given the scope of the operation, the importance of the event in ending WW II in Europe, and number of Allied casualties I don't think it's too much to ask that any sitting president acknowledge what happened on D Day every year.
I'll also admit that I'm on everything Barry does like white on rice; I am biased and I can't wait for the elections and the day the moving vans pullup to 1600 Pennsylvania and move the Obamas out of the White House. [sarcasm]I'm pretty sure no one knew that already...[/sarcasm] :Whistle
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Got any proof of that, or did you just reach up and pull that little statistic out of thin air?
No, it’s not your imagination: President Barack Obama is spending a whole lot of time fundraising, perhaps more than any incumbent president in history.
Including this week’s trip to California, he will have spent eight of 24 weekdays during the past month – that’s a third of them - on the road and collecting cash.

"Obama’s failure to mark D-Day in any significant way is both a shame and a political mistake.
According to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, two critical swing states – Florida and Pennsylvania, are among the top five states in terms of veterans’ population. Within the top twelve are four others – Michigan, Ohio, Virginia and North Carolina – all states Obama desperately needs to carry."

D-Day trivia, a practice landing on a English beach was intercepted by German E-boats and more GI's died in this dress rehearsal than the actual famous day.
And if you want to see a President honor D-Day, find Ronald Reagan's speech at the 40th anniversary. You will enjoy it.

Before it gets chippy, I'm just teasing about Jim Kerry being a Nazi... rofllol

Nope, I do not think we need to add anything for Iraq or Afghanstan either. Most of the Vietnam Vets that I know, do not really celebrate it, but they go to the wall etc to pay a small tribute to thier buddies. Or have reunions. I have been to a few of them.
One thing that does get me pissed off is this year, President Obama made a bad choice is closing down the Vietnam wall for about 7 hours so he could do a 5 minute speech during Memorial Day. He went to Arlington etc, that was fine, but to close the wall down by Secret Service for that long, on that day!!!!!!!!!!!
