So, lessee...This mythical "anti-shooter"/Dirty Harry/vigilante would have had to have the following qualities, according to the wacko gun-nuts here:
CCW license
Good-to-excellent marksman
Carrying weapon of sufficient caliber to be able to take the attacker down.
Able to see in the dark
Able to distinguish attacker from collateral patrons in smoke-filled room
Able to distinguish that attacker was NOT wearing bullet-proof gear, and therefore able to know where to shoot him
Previous experience in being in shoot-outs...
Did I leave anything out? Hey, then all we need to do is make sure that we have at least one person with such qualifications in every screening-room, in every theater, in every city and state across the nation!
Wow! Who knew?
(You can't make this bullsh*t up....)

Aurora theater shooting: Gun sales up since tragedy
Firearm interest spikes as some seek protection
Background checks for people wanting to buy guns in Colorado jumped more than 41 percent after Friday morning's shooting at an Aurora movie theater, and firearms instructors say they're also seeing increased interest in the training required for a concealed-carry permit.

And for balance - there's always the grandpa at the internet cafe who managed to thwart an armed robbery. This CCW Senior Citizen sent not one, but two thugs running for their lives when they attempted to rob the patrons of the cafe armed with a handgun and a baseball bat. Not only that, he managed to wound both of them and they were later captured as a result of seeking treatment for their gunshot wounds at local hospitals. The surveillance footage can be viewed on YouTube if you want to see it. Now, I will grant you that it wasn't a darkened theater and no smoke/tear gas canisters had been tossed, nor was grandpa facing an active shooter - but I wanted Dog to see that those who choose to obtain their CCW and prepare themselves for a situation they have never faced have the ability to make a difference despite his desire to believe all of them deserve to be called a doofus.Something the Dog Said wrote: . . . it would be more likely that a doofus like the described in this article would shoot innocent victims there.
"A licensed concealed handgun owner from Waco, Texas hurt more than his pride on Monday when his weapon accidentally discharged while he was reaching for his wallet at a Dallas Walmart store.
Police said that Todd Canady, 23, was in the checkout line when he fired the pistol he was carrying inside his pants.
“The bullet struck Canady in the buttock, then ricochet on the floor and broke into pieces,” KDFW reported. Two children and a woman were also wounded when they were struck by bullet fragments."

I agree with you here Dog. Well said.Something the Dog Said wrote: I found it offensive that the republican congressman from Texas and the republican leader in Arizona inferred that the victims were cowards for not rushing the gunman. They were all heroes there, particularly those who sacrificed their lives to shield others.

Dawkins had a superficial wound in his left arm, but Henderson was shot in two places: his left buttock and his right hip.
