Marines place $22.5M order for the Colt .45 M1911

It’s been called the greatest handgun ever made, and it has barely changed sine 1911, when the legendary John Browning designed it especially for the U.S. Military.

And now, the Colt .45 M1911 is making a big comeback, now that the U.S. Marines have placed a $22.5 million order for the Connecticut-made pistols.

The gun, which has been wielded on film by John Wayne and in real life by Sgt. Alvin York and Maj. Audie Murphy, was the standard-issue sidearm in the military for decades, until it was replaced by the Beretta M9 in 1985.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Sounds like the voice of experience, how many times did you have to be reprimanded by the Mods before you got it right?

Have a nice day! :)

I must have struck a nerve to draw such a vitriolic response. The truth hurts, I can understand why you wouldn't want to discuss it here, that would be really embarrassing. I guess being VL is just one long humiliating, embarrassing, failure after another. Crawl back under your rock, or don't. I'm going to continue to ignore you no matter how many times you change your nick name or create new accounts pretending to be someone else.

It's not a lot of money but I'm glad to see at least one branch of the DoD investing in US companies and products. Over all the Beretta isn't a bad pistol but a 9mm vs. a .45? I'll take the knock down power of a .45 every time.

I have a Beretta and it's a great pistol, but would love to add one of these to the collection.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

The Beretta is definitely cheaper to shoot and it's not like we are living in a war zone so a 9mm ought to be sufficient for most. On the other hand if Duty calls and young men and women are going to be sent into a theater of war I want them to have the best weapons and training they can get.

Ditto. I was sorry to see the .45 go. Although the .45's that made it to my commands had had a LOT of loads shot through them.

To be fair to JMC's odd post they were as sloppy as a two dollar whore.
