Reminds me of a retired SF guy I know who says he gave up drinking Jack when he figured out how much it hurt his hands.

When my dad went to Ohio State in the 50's, he brought cash to pay the tuition bill. (Lost it in a poker game, but that is a different story.)
Imagine today's kids showing up with 20K in their pocket.

College education and healthcare is free in many countries...And all the people in those countries are ahead of us in knowledge and life expectancy, so to answer your question- Republicans happened.
