NYPD New York's Finest, Now Duck!

Near the Empire State Building this morning, a disgruntled ex-employee shot his former boss dead. Then as he went to leave, two policemen shot 16 times killing the shooter who drew on him & also managed to hit 9 bystanders! Eek. I sure hope those who were struck by police bullets were hit after the bullets had passed through the shooter. One more thing, the range was only 5 feet. Looks like police need a little more practice at the range.

NYPD has a horrible record for accurate shooting. I always thought one wasn't supposed to shoot if there would be collateral damage. Guess it doesn't apply in NYC. Besides, aren't handgun licenses very difficult to get in NYC? How did that guy get one?

So, now that you guys have all jumped to your conclusions about how the shooting went down, how far the cops were from the shooter, how their inaccuracy wounded innocent bystanders, ad nauseum--(God, I love the vacuous armchair-quarterbacks)--Here is the video of the actual take-down...

Now you can impress us all with your knowledge of bullet ballistics and other inane, irrelevant knowledge to try to save face over your speculations, which as usual, are full of crap.

And I stand now with egg on my face...and apologize for the snarky post... Apparently the cops DID shoot the bystanders...

New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said all nine bystanders wounded in Friday's Empire State Building shooting had been hit with police gunfire, CNN reported Saturday morning.

According to Kelly, of the nine wounded, three suffered gunshot wounds and six were hit by fragments.

Gunfire broke out shortly after 9 a.m. on Friday when a gunman identified as 58-year old Jeffrey Johnson shot and killed former coworker Steve Ercolino near the Empire State Building.

Johnson attempted to flee the scene, but was thwarted after a construction worker who followed him tipped off police officers.

Police approached Johnson who aimed his gun at the officers before police opened fire, killing him on the spot.

The NYPD said officers fired 16 rounds with one officer shooting nine and another seven.

Apologies for MY jumping to conclusions... In the video it looks like they were right on top of the guy, and couldn't have missed from that range...(and probably didn't)...What it didn't show was how many rounds were fired before that takedown...

It has been interesting to hear how some if the press has been covering this. They mention the killed and the wounded in the headlines but you have to read the story to find out that the wounded were all caused by the police. Luckily it looks like none of the injured had critical wounds. Some of the shots from citizen camera phones look ghastly and I initially thought some of the wounded would wind up dead. Maybe some of the wounded were caused by bullets passing through the perp? I don't know if NYPD issues hollowpoint loads which tend to cause more damage but aren't as likley to exit the intended target.

Too bad some of the crack sharpshooters here on 285, who could have stopped the Aurora shooting instantly, weren't there to make sure no innocent bystanders were shot.

I was thinking that... Gee, if they'd only been nearby they could have taken aim with their superpowers, and taken the shooter down...(Of course the cops arriving on the scene might have thought it was part of the plot and shot them...But, hey, they could fly their CCW/Macho-flag and impressed everyone....)
