Fox News: Ryan's speech "deceiving"

30 Aug 2012 09:14 #1 by Raees
In a surprising move, Fox News joined CNN, The Huffington Post, the Washington Post's Wonkblog, and ThinkProgress in publishing a fact-check of the Republican vice presidential nominee's speech, finding that the speech was full of lies and misleading assertions.

On the other hand, to anyone paying the slightest bit of attention to facts, Ryan’s speech was an apparent attempt to set the world record for the greatest number of blatant lies and misrepresentations slipped into a single political speech. On this measure, while it was Romney who ran the Olympics, Ryan earned the gold.

What, fox published an opinion piece from a democrat who has acknowledged time and time again that she likes nothing about the republicans? Just cause she doesn't like what is said doesn't change the speech.

I hope you democrat fact checkers don't lose your skills next week at the democrat convention. I'd like to see you present all the things which will be lies as well.

Too bad future generations aren't here to see all the great things we are spending their $$ on!!

The piece points out lies. Perhaps you missed that. From reading the article, it also covered the positives of Ryan's speech.

I think someone needs to do a fact check on what the fact checker wrote - there's a lot of opinion in there and very few actual facts.

Take the allegation that Ryan wanted to hand over Social Security to Wall Street - not even remotely close to fact or truth. What Ryan proposed be done is that a portion of the withholding taxes be put into an account that belonged to the individual taxpayer, over which they had control, where they could choose from a number of funds approved by the federal government in which to invest. That account is something that they, not the federal government, not Wall Street, would have full rights of private property to. No one could "borrow" those funds leaving an IOU in place of a financial asset because they would belong to the individual taxpayer from whom the funds were originally withheld.

As to the opinion expressed regarding Ryan's comments on MediCare, some rather important matters were conveniently left out for whatever reason. Chief among them is that the CBO itself has said that it is unable to score the supposed savings in the reimbursement rate with any degree of accuracy given that it won't take effect, presuming repeal efforts remain unsuccessful, until 2014.

But I'm sure the opinions expressed tasted sweet to anyone who simply drinks it down without analyzing what it is that the glass holds.

I applaud you for not slipping "collectivists" into your post.

Other fact checks on Ryan's speech:

Take your pick.

Ryan had an amazing opportunity to hit the ball out of the park with a stirring speech like Condolezza Rice, but instead he chose to tell half truths and no truths. By doing so, he showed what he thought of the voters he sought to enlist in his cause.

Of course the unquestioning party faithful ate it up.

Again, the fact checkers need to be fact checked. The GM plant in Janesville remained open to fill existing orders of medium duty trucks until June of 2009, it was still in operation and open when the Obama team wrote the bankruptcy plan. Yes, it stopped producing SUV's and a majority of the workers were laid off before Obama was sworn into office, but by that time Obama had already asked President Bush to get an auto bailout bill done during his final days in office so that his administration could act quickly on their plans. Had Obama given the workers and the plant in Janesville the federal help that he said could keep the plant open for another 100 years if it was given, the plant would still be open. Obama had the opportunity to make good on what he told those union workers in February of 2008 when he was seeking their support and didn't come through for them.

The office in the plant was kept open with 29 employees, the plant was already closed ( do we get to blame Bush for that?)

The medium duty truck line continued to operate assembling vehicles to fill existing orders during the orchestration of the GM bankruptcy by the Obama administration. That is simply the fact of the matter archer. The assembly line for SUVs was shut down in December, and that is when the majority of the union workers who listened to Obama on that day in February lost their jobs, but to say that Obama didn't have the opportunity to provide the federal assistance that he spoke of when he visited the plant seeking the support of the union workers there is simply incorrect.
