But, if what you say is true, it's heartening to know that an immigrant who came to America and became a multi-millionaire with stores in 49 states is Democrat. It just goes to show that not all business owners are Republicans.
And the Dayton/Hudsons who founded Target are Dems too. Interesting to see Kohl's & Target not attacked in the press for using Wal-Mart tactics to kill off local mom & pop stores.

Not sure, but that would be the least likely reason to me. Why would you want to settle for a third of your normal wages for only a year vs full wages and benefits? Are there a lot of unemployed construction workers to chose from?

Yes, construction unemployment is in the 20% range....
The problem is this. Construction workers who aren't super motivated can draw unemployment, and if they want, do "off book" work for cash. Big problem in the industry, and part of the problem is the lack of any ability to cut those off who don't actually want to work. You don't have to prove you are seeking work anymore.

You might be right. We start guys at $15, only goes up from there, if you actually want to work. You are correct though, I know companies who pay $8-$10/hr for this hard work. I'd rather go out of business than treat people like that.

But it goes back to my point....why can't we (and a lot of other companies like us) get people to come work for that? Even as a temporary job until someone gets whatever job they really want? I believe, and our experience shows it, that the unemployment/food stamp/welfare system is too easy...people don't HAVE to work.
