I discovered that you can contact your local election official and have your phone number removed from your voter registration. VoilĂ -- no phone calls when this election cycle is done.
I think when you register to vote you should be able to check a box or something that states whether you can be contacted by phone.
For those of us already registered maybe there should be a website that we can opt out on.
At least with the TV ads you have the choice to turn the volume down, pause and fast forward (what we do) change the channel or turn the dran thing off.
It won't make a difference this election cycle because "they" already have gotten the info from the election office. (Which is why I'm still getting the annoying calls. And I don't want to sit through their recorded spiel to tell them to remove me from their list.) However, if you call now the phone number can be removed and in the future won't be available to the solicitors.
Sorry, I misunderstood your comment "For those of us already registered ...".
All you have to do to stop the annoying calls is answer the phone and tell them you've already made up your mind, and "DO NOT CALL" again. Why is that so hard? Seems to me that you "should take personal responsibility and care for [your] lives" by just saying "no"....
Robo-calls are advertising, and they have nothing to do with the voter-registration rolls provided to the parties, and unfortunately, they are not covered by the Federal "Do Not Call" list. That is two separate issues. (Guess which party insisted on that exclusion....)
Both parties who are calling in-person will respect your wishes if you ask them.
The robo-calls HC and I are referring to are the ones coming from the parties. They take the bank of phone numbers of registered voters and simply robo-call rather than using a person. Because they are political in nature, they are not considered advertising and are allowed. Some of them end with the standard "if you would like to be removed, etc" at the end, but I'm not willing to waste my time listening to their drivel.
I get more robo than personal calls. Fortunately, this is the last year I'll have to deal with it.
