will the Republican party be relevant in future elections?

Absolutely fear mongering, but the GOP agenda for repealing Roe vs. Wade is as well known as the Democratic agenda for overturning Heller. Until the GOP is willing to take that out of their platform many women will not even consider looking at the GOP.

You know, that would be a good starting compromise between the two parties to show a little goodwill...if the GOP gets their grimy little paws out of women's plumbing the Dems will keep their grimy little paws off the 2nd Amendment. Nah....it'll never happen...

You keep saying that... And here's a list of the laws that Obama & the Dems passed re: the 2nd Amendment:

1) Guns are now legal in National Parks...
2) .........

And the NRA fear mongers keep whipping up the gun-nuts, and selling more guns and ammo... And you guys keep lapping it up...

Good... Nice to see all that disposable income going to the manufacturers....

Something the Dog Said wrote: So you believe that Romney was lying about repealing Roe v. Wade? Or that Akin and Mourdock were only kidding about their remarks about rape? Or that the House GOP was only joshing about limiting the ability of women to have access to contraceptives? Or the House GOP did not really mean their 60 something bills restricting access to abortion?

It was all wishful thinking/playing to their base.

1) Guns are legal in national parks because it was attached to a credit reform bill that little o dared not veto.
2) Heller passed 5 - 4. Kagen and Sotomayor were instrumental in that vote being so close. With 2 to 3 more little o appointees that will be overturned.
3) Little o has already called for a reinstatement of the so-called "assault weapons" ban - right out of his mouth in the debates and a platform of the Democratic National Committee where, incidentally, they term our Second Amendment right as a "tradition" (WTF???), and from many news stories would like to also ban all semi-autos (Feinstein is working on that right now for him).
4) Little o has stated publicly that law-abiding citizens should not have the right to keep and bear arms. That quote is from a Chicago newpaper article.
5) The emails recovered from whistleblower ATF agents in Fast & Furious that point to the entire operation having been constructed to force more gun control in the US.
6) Little o's own words to the Brady Campaign regarding working on the "gun problem" "under the radar".
7) The administration's agreement with the UN Small Arms Treaty.

These things have nothing to do with the NRA or any other lobbying group - I don't take marching orders from them. Hell, I don't take marching orders from my husband - just ask him! They are documented policy and reported stories in the press, and not Fox - I don't listen to them, either.

Now with a lame duck term we can all sit back and see that happens. He was wise enough not to press the issue before re-election, but now that he's outta there regardless I suspect he'll have that Executive Order ink a-flowin'.

The exit polls are interesting to see what holds for the future:
Female voters - Obama 55 Romney 43
Single unmarried female voters Obama 68 Romney 30
Latino voters Obama 69 Romney 29
African American voters Obama 93 Romney 6
Asian American votes Obama 74 Romney 25
Jewish voters Obama 70 Romney 22
Catholic voters Obama 50 Romney 47
Protestant voters Obama 56 Romney 43
18 - 29 year old voters Obama 60 Romney 37

The only demographics that Obama lost were male voters, older voters and white voters. While older voters are increasing due to the aging of the baby boomers, male voters and particularly white voters are shrinking in number. The other demographics are on the rise.

The only way the republicans can stay relevant is to take away the social conservative part of the platform. The christian conservatives will still be part of the party because they've got nowhere else to go.

One could argue that the Libertarians have more in common with Democrats than Republicans, looking at the gay marriage issue, marijuana legalization, women's right to choose, etc., all intended to get the government out of dictating individuals social issues.

Fear mongering? Not really. The worry was not so much Romney himself as what kind of judges he would nominate to the Supreme Court, if given the chance. The anti-choice contingency has been pretty open about their desire to overturn Roe v Wade and their eagerness for Romney to change the dynamics of the Court.

Gary Johnson only got up to 3% in a couple of states. If the libertarians got smart, they'd take over the GOP by battling the religious whackjobs. Then they'd actually have a chance to get someone into office rather than sit off to the side being content to exist as a simple protest vote.
