Why have we broken the chains of the whiteness that bound us to fatally tasteless white bread while still remaining imprisoned in the white-meat turkey ghetto? …
Despite its superior taste, dark meat has dark undertones for some. Dark meat evokes the color of earth, soil. Dark meat seems to summon up ancient fears of contamination and miscegenation as opposed to the supposed superior purity of white meat. I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise that white meat remains the choice of a holiday that celebrates Puritans.
I knew I wasn't a racist, I like the dark meat, and even better the pink meat from a good smoked turkey. And nationally with the rebirth of heritage turkeys that are closer to the real birds than the genetic monsters Butterball breeds that can barely stand.

I prefer white meat. White meat has less fat. It's called white meat cuz - it's white.
Dark meat has more fat. It's darker than the white meat, hence the name.
Some people spend too much time on the internet. I'm beginning to think I'm one of 'em.

Umm, I think that's not quite correct..it's slow-twitch vs fast-twitch muscle fibers.
The active muscles, such as the legs and thighs, are full of blood vessels. These blood vessels contain myoglobin (or muscle hemoglobin), which delivers oxygen to the muscles. The more myoglobin the muscles contain, the darker the muscle.
On the other hand, white meat is the result of well-rested muscles. The breast muscles, which are used for flying, are hardly used by turkeys. There is no need to have a rich supply of oxygen delivered to these muscles.
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
