Latest news. The shooter's mom was going to send him in for a psych evaluation and that could be what set him off.

So she was sufficiently concerned about his mental health to schedule him for a psych evaluation, but did not feel it necessary to secure her weapons from him?

And then there is this:

French psychiatrist sentenced after patient commits murder
MARSEILLES, France (Reuters) - A French psychiatrist whose patient hacked an elderly man to death was found guilty of manslaughter on Tuesday in a groundbreaking case that could affect the way patients are treated.

A court in Marseilles said Daniele Canarelli, 58, had committed a "grave error" by failing to recognize the public danger posed by Joel Gaillard, her patient of four years.

Should CU be held responsible for James Holmes? After all they abdicated their responsibility once that wacko was no longer a student.

I do not understand why she did not secure her weapons. No doubt she is partially responsible for this event.

We don't have any mental health issues in our home (well, in our opinion . . .) but hubby keeps all his weapons locked up all the time except for his service weapon. If anyone comes over it gets locked up, too.

She might have had them locked up, but the kid seems to be pretty bright and if she is like me, has the safe code or key somewhere else that a resident would be able to get to if they had plenty of time to look.

She should have thought of that, if you can't secure them at home. Secure them someplace else or at at the very least disassemble the weapons and secure necessary parts someplace else. I understand she utilized a local gun range, I'm pretty sure she could have arranged to store her weapons there.

But she didn't, did she... And the kid got the guns... And he MURDERED 20 children and 6 adults with an AR-15, and 30-round magazines of ammo.
