Should we support it? It would decrease the people who would have to pay the Clinton tax hikes, but it doesn't really look like any spending would be cut. Essentially I think it is more kicking the can down the road so I don't support it.
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
I say let's go over the cliff. Spending cuts gotta happen sooner or later and since there is no one in public office with enough courage to do what needs to be done lets enjoy the ride into the abyss.
Over the cliff. I don't trust either side to come up with anything viable. We have to increase taxes and we have to cut spending. Neither side is willing to do both, and neither side is willing to do more than token spending cuts/tax raises. Hate to say it, but I think we all need to suck it up and pay higher taxes and deal with some siginifcant across-the-board cuts. But that's just my opinion.
I hope they go off the cliff...(Which is what I think they will do. Boner is not going to take any action until after he's got the Speakership vote behind him--on Jan 3rd)... So, for the sake of his own politics, he'll let it go off the cliff.
But going off the cliff, basically means we get what we wanted. ALL of the Bush tax-cuts go bye-bye. Then a new bill will be put up for make all of the rates, except the top one, permanent. Let's see the GOTP vote against that one... And then they'll pass one to set the top rate at >$250,000.... Lst's see the GOTP vote against that one. Then they'll have a look at the Defense budget, which needs MAJOR cutting...
Boehner says his plan B only rasies taxes for those making over $1 million, but he doesn't tell you that the bill also eliminates some deductions which raises taxes for low to middle income people as well.
But going off the fiscal cliff raises taxes for most all tax payers, with the low income getting the biggest percentage hit as the lowest bracket goes up 50% from 10 to 15%. Plus the 2% payroll tax reduction would go away.
Over the cliff. Neither side is willing to do the work to make any kind of compromise. Give the people what they voted for and rub their nose in it every time they whine about not being able to find a job, bringing home less money, and all of the other "benefits" a second term of Obama will bring to what is left of our nation.
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.
