Hope they get some follow-up on their privacy invasion. Wonder how many homes will be burglarized thanks to those morons?

Touche'. I just saw a photo and address of the reporter's house. Is it really a smart thing to p.o. gun owners?

FredHayek wrote: So the Dog thinks state laws should be able to overrule the 1st Amendment? Interesting. Continuing this course if you think it is fair for you to know which neighbors have guns so you can determine which homes are safe for your kids to visit shouldn't it also be public information which of your neighbors are convicted sexual predators and which have easily transmitted diseases? We could even make them wear a scarlet letter A for AIDS.

Where did you get that from? State laws do not and can not overrule the 1st Amendment. However, it is considered an invasion of privacy to publish private information about an individual that is not available from public sources, that can lead to potential harm to that individual. The 1st Amendment does not protect the press or anyone else. So if the people of NY did not want that information to be public and publishable, then they can tailor the law so that such information is not subject to FOIA requests.

In regard to convicted sexual predators, any good parent would want that information which is easily available from your local sheriff's department. In regard to easily transmittable diseases, HIPPA prevents that information from being shared as to identities of people. I do not have a phobia against those who suffer from AIDs, have visited in the homes of friends who suffer, but I would look at the hygiene of anyone that I would allow my children to visit, regardless of whether they suffer from AIDs (FYI, it is not easily transmittable), chicken pox, measles, colds, flu, the plague, etc.

HIPPA does seem to have been created as a response to AID's discrimination and unfounded fears about it.

So it is OK to publish information about a LAW ABIDING individual to further ones liberal agenda. Not surprizing. They should still get a lawyer and sue the hell out of them. Let the courts decide if it was just. Giving out personal information, about ones address, etc without consent I have a serious problem with that. If one is a law abiding citizen, it is no one business what one does or has. This was nothing more than a liberal agenda that they wanted to push. Nothing more. I hope they lose business and go out of business.

and just so you cant call the conservative BS, I am not.

Sue the hell out of them for what?... Releasing PUBLIC INFORMATION, OBTAINED LEGALLY by an F.O.I. request?

If the State didn't want the information to be "Public information", then they should have added a clause to the legislation that required it to NOT be public.

Next outrage......

Nothing like screwing the law abiding citizen, just so a liberal agenda can be pushed.

Unfortunately, no rights or laws were violated. Yeah, it sucks that the paper created the map. but it's the same as hitting up the local county online database and finding out if your neighbors have paid their taxes... It's all out there and it's easier than ever to get the info, convert it into usable information, and present that information on the web.

Maybe someone should take a database of the properties in the counties in question, exclude the gun permit holders, and label the map "Here are the houses that are unprotected by pistol permit holders".

Exactly....

I'm sure the registered sex-offenders would rather not have their privacy violated, but you can look online, (certainly in Colorado), and see a map showing exactly where they live.
