Publishing lists of gun owners with addresses?

This has come up in Conn. in the legislature. Publishing gun owners names and residences.

Seems a little odd. Is this not the same as putting up a sign in your yard pointing out your pesky neighbor that does not own guns.

Seems this list would ID those that don't have guns. If I lived in Conn right now and did not own a gun, I might go get one just to make sure my name WAS on any such list if it were to be made. Even if I buried the gun in concrete in the basement after I bought it for because say I was afraid of it.

Does this seem a little odd to anyone else? I cannot make the connection with how this would stop what folks are now most worried about.

Maybe I muddied the waters too much. I am simply suggesting that this list calls out non-gun owners that may want to hide the fact that they are not armed with guns. I think there is a concept and it seems to be logical, that some of us are protected by people not knowing if we have weapons or not.

What is your perspective on this, you think about this stuff quite a bit? Do you think this will help with shootings or is this a way to use shootings to push another goal. I guess that nut Ann Coulter put it best, would we accept publishing lists of names and addresses of anyone that has had abortions. I bet the community would like to know that as well. Just food for thought. She is still a bit of a nut, but made a good point. Kind of like the prostate exam proposal in order to get viagra in response to exam proposals for abortion or birthcontrol rights.

I already suggested that they publish names and addresses of every defense contractor and lobbyist that's working to ensure the government spends hundreds of billions in crap we don't need. You want to see people get enraged?

Focus....I appreciate that you already suggested that an unrelated group of people should be called out, but this a discussion about publishing the list of gun owners with their addresses that not only calls them out but also those that don't have guns.

Do you have an opinion on that? I am not sure why you are changing the subject or perhaps you have been more clear on this in the past and I have not read all threads, if so I am sorry, but if you could repeat your opinion on this subject, I would appreciate it, I know you have given the gun control issue some thought, likely more than I have.

And landlords, marketing firms, business associates, marketing firms, potential boyfriends, vendors, stalkers, marketing firms, and more.

Did I mention marketing firms, oh and foreign govts, schools you apply to and facebook (oh I already said marketing firms, didn't I).

oh yeah, and marketing firms and people and companies and govts that collect data to use it against us.

And banks.

It was reported this morning that many police officers and prison guards in NY are being openly threatened by criminals and inmates about knowing their address and info, thereby putting them and their families at risk. Great, lets punish those who are upholding our laws. So publishing this information makes it easier for thieves to pick an unarmed house to rob, or pick the house to steal guns from depending on their desires, again great - either way you punish those who were otherwise lawfully conducting their lives.

Also, in the mall shooting in Oregon last year the perpetrator choose that mall because it had a displayed policy prohibiting LEGAL concealed-carry of arms into the facility, and he felt it an easier target because of this. So abolishing the 2nd amendment make us less safe, not more safe.

Just because you disagree with someone it does not give you the right to demonize them or put their life at risk.

Do you have link for this. I dont recall them interviewing the shooter after he died.
