Once again, the only bans under discussion are bans that we have had in the past. It is irresponsible and alarmist to extend the conversation to ALL guns as neither major party is taking that position. Even among my most liberal friends and family, only one is pro-gun ban, and she was traumatized when a neighbors child shot and killed her little brother before her eyes while snowng off his dads handgun. It is an extremist position, like those on the right that would ban all abortions and most forms of contraception. Using the most extreme argument to characterize the discussion does no one any favors. If you truly want a discussion, that is.

I started this thread as a "worst case senario". Not to ban all guns, but to ban semi-auto guns and force people to use single fire instead. It's not unrealistic imo to assume MANY in congress would like a law like this but are waiting for the polls to follow their goals. If there was a current poll that showed a majority of Americans were in favor of single shot weapons only, don't you think there would be many in Washington ready to change the law?
The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
The folks in Washington are there to represent the opinions of the electorate. They should vote in a way reflective of that. If the laws they pass are unconstitutional, they will be struck down by the Supreme Court or vetoed by the President. The Congress is not there to advance their agenda, but ours.
