Are there any reliable news sources?

06 Feb 2013 22:07 #1 by jf1acai
People here are constantly bitching about the news sources cited, which I believe has led to some not citing any source at all.

Are there any news sources that would be accepted by most as being reliable?

Personally, I doubt it. I cannot think of a single news source that I would consider to be reliable.

So, why don't we quit bitching about the source, and discuss the content? Point out the flaws in the information provided, rather than the source of the information.

The secret is to use a wide variety of sources and being aware of the agenda of each.

The secret is to cite where you got your information from, your source, so that other posters can make their own assessment of the value of your facts. If what is posted is simply your opinion, or something you think is true, then is it so hard just to say so? If you are citing facts to back up your argument, then a source is needed....it really isn't rocket science. Yet for some posters it is like pulling teeth to get any source for the statistics or statements they post, like the rest of us are supposed to do their homework for them.

Most of the daily drive-by MSM articles are fluffy, short summaries and I think they spend more time creating the catchy headline than doing research and analysis. And the lazy ones just post videos of some moron newscaster and make you watch commercials. LOL

Some sites I like for in depth longer articles are:

NY Times, WSJ, TIME, USAToday, USNEWS

http://www.theatlantic.com/

http://www.economist.com/

http://www.ft.com/

http://www.usnews.com/usnews/home.htm

For International BBC is pretty good reading.

If you are lazy like me, just use Google news and get a variety of sources updated constantly.

Of course the Onion news is #1
