State of the Union...

So, I'll be watching to see if the gauntlet(s) are thrown down on things like obstruction of jobs bills, gun control measures, immigration reform, and other important topics...

What I WON'T be watching is any of the silly rebuttals by however many of the GOTP splinter-groups...(Since they can't make up their minds how many factions have to get in their two-cent's worth). But isn't it rewarding to know that both of the speakers go on the air with everyone knowing that they just voted against the VAWA (Violence Against Women Act). Of course, they still lost, but it says so much that the "new, kinder, gentler GOTP" still can't seem to find enough lipstick to put on that pig to cover up what they really are still all about.

And how cute that one of the REAL wackos is bringing Ted Nugent... How [in]appropriate... The other nice thing about the GOTP is its utter lack of "political optics" for the rest of the country. Oh, well...Maybe after tonight's event, we won't have to remind them...again...who won the election, and which party is still in the tank with every demographic in the country, except old, angry, white guys...

It's all a giant commercial with a lot of hot air blowing around. If I thought that I'd actually see anything come of these speeches and opinions afterwards tossed about, I might watch.

:sarcasm: Should they rename the SOTU to "the State Of My Agenda"?

Never once did he note the numbers on how deeply in debt the nation is or how it has increased last year.

He is the union, so his state of mind is all that's relevant.

If the debt is such a screaming priority, then the GOTP should have no problem with allowing the closing of more loopholes to bring in more revenue. It won't fix all of it, but it's a great start. Lets close the loopholes for hiding corporate cash offshore; get rid of the hedge-fund manager tax-breaks; get rid of the "Interest Carry-forward" (RMoney) loophole; Close the loopholes for hiding your wealth offshore in the Cayman Islands, Bermuda, Switzerland; get rid of tax-breaks for shipping jobs off-shore...(or is it 'outsourcing'...I can never remember); get rid of $4billion/year breaks for oil and gas companies; close breaks for corporate jets, and corporate yachts... Oh, there's LOTS that could be done to bring in more revenue close the holes.

So did "stay thirsty, my friend" Rubio damage his credibility in his canned response?

Don't you find it fascinating that after being beaten by a substantial majority selling those same stale Randroid ideas just three months ago, their "great idea" was to trout out yet another GOTP talking-head to repeat those same stale ideas again, but with a Spanish accent? They just prove once again that they are shallow enough to think that if they wrap the same unsellable rhetoric in a new package with a new wrapper, and a new bow on it, somehow that constitutes a "change" in their message. You keep wondering "What part of 'We don't like what you're selling' don't they get?"

American People to the GOTP: "Been there, heard that." But I love the fact that they keep trotting out minorities, (Hispanics, Blacks, whatever), to read the same script. (As if the ethnicity of the person reading the canned script is going to somehow "win over" the people that didn't like it in the first place.)

So, I guess we'll just keep bouncing from "manufactured crisis" to "manufactured crisis" for awhile longer. We'll clean out some more of the 'Bagger riff-raff in 2014, and 2016, and after awhile we'll have a working government.

Gee and I wont be watching as you and others take more money from families using your henchmen to redistribute as you see fit.

I have not been here much in a few weeks. I actually forgot about the militant do gooders willing to do anything to make themselves feel good.

What a bad speech about doing all kinds of things we cannot afford to do that likely will do nothing but make the world worse and give Americans less choices.

People really are addicted to government.
