Not sure if I'm imagining things or not - but the GOP seems to have a long track record of searching for black conservatives to trumpet. I"m not even sure the trend is unique to the GOP.
In any event, consider this list:
- Oklahoma Rep. Watts (before it was vogue)
- Colin Powell (whoops - he endorsed Obama)
- Thomas Sowell (as a Chicago School student, I happen to like him)
- Alan Keyes (can't stand him)
- Herman Cain (can't stand him)
The GOP now seems to have a crush on Benjamin Carson.
I've read a little about the guy --- he is inspiring (there's a lot of inspiring people on this planet, though).
I really do wonder, though - if this guy speaks from his own point of view - or whether or not he's surrounded by ideological handlers that tell him what to think. I suppose I wonder whether he's authentic (except for Paul, I have not seen what I'd consider an authentic GOP star for awhile).
I like the idea of a free-market --- the notion of self governance ---- and the capacity to act for ones self. That's what I was taught to believe in (and I agree with my teachers). However, I'm really leery of the conservative agenda being trumped up for corporate, rather than individual gain.
All of this is to ask the question ---- what (in your opinion) is behind the rise of Ben Carson?

Who are you to judge who is "authentic"? No offense, but you can't judge what goes on in another man's mind noo matter how hard you try. Like it or not, not every black man or woman is bound by the 95% who vote Democrat... some black people are capable of understanding that the Democratic party hasn't exactly lifted minorities out of poverty and unemployment. But Obama's speeches are enough for some to keep that "hope" alive.
Ben Carson is a very intelligent and accomplished non-politician with the balls to call out bad policy right in front of the bad policy champion. I'd vote for him.
The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

On first blush it does seem like Ben Carson is new to politics, as a practicing pediatric neurosurgeon I almost understand his stance on guns (but I happen to disagree with his position). Trying to find a minority face to represent the GOP isn't that hard, Marco Rubio is a good example of a better known potential candidate. I would like to see more of Ben Carson to determine if he is being used as a mouth piece for short term to generate better polls for the GOP going into 2014 or if there is a more extensive history. Most of all I want conservative candidates that say what they will do and then go do what they said they would do.

All Republicans think alike is Rule #1 in the Dem playbook. They all hate women, even GOP women hate women. They all are anti-abortion, even the ones like me that support abortion rights. lol We are all like Robots in lock step with what FNC tells us.
