Hint: Trying to justify, and/or apologize for someone who is dumb enough to use the term "wetback" in 2013 is the pure height of stupidity. There's a reason that Boehner and Preibus are apologizing FOR HIM, even if he is too stupid to do it for himself...And I don't give a flip whether it was an acceptable term 20-30-40 years ago in Alaska or not.
You guys REALLY need to get a handle on this thing of trying to apologize and "explain" to a whole demographic of people that one of your neanderthals just insulted...Particularly when you're in the process of trying to "rebrand" the party from looking stupid, racist, sexist, homophobic, ageist, and sociopathic...
LadyJazzer wrote: Welllll, then we know if a derogatory term from 40 years ago was okay back then, then surely the whole Hispanic population today must surely not be offended now... I guess that's why Boehner and Priebus are falling all over themselves trying to apologize for this guy. Gee, I remember back in Texas in the early 60's the term "n****r", was used a lot too. I guess they can use that too, since it was okay 40-50 years ago... You guys keep working on your "rebranding" exercise"--It's working so well...
You can't make this kind of moronic "apologetics" up... Doesn't your neck hurt from all that twisting around to try to justify the bigots?
PLEASE, Jus' keep doin' what yer doin'...
Your reading comprehension sucks LJ.
The Representative screwed up by using a term that's fallen into the forbidden category, there's no doubt of that. His apology also stinks, and should have just been a simple "Sorry" with no excuse.
Nobody here is defending his use of the term given it's modern negative meaning, nor is anyone saying his excuse/apology was good enough.
"Whatever you are, be a good one." ~ Abraham Lincoln
Funny, the thread was started to criticize him, but LadyJazzer can't see that because she doesn't actually look at anything those of us right of center actually write. She just assumes she knows what we are saying. As I said on another thread, this site is drowning in trolls. Some thoughtful posting would be a refreshing change from this left vs. right garbage. It gets booooring.
SIDE NOTE.......the term "salmon jerky" is PC for an Eskimo delicacy called "squaw candy"........ strips of salmon hung out
on a line, cold-smoked and then allowed to dry.....NOTHING like what you get down here in the "lower 48"....then we have
"Eskimo Ice cream".......whale blubber, blueberries, I think a Little sugar and VOILA! Eskimo ice cream......(Bailey Bud,was
I correct on ingredients?).........Usik (spelling?) is a FINE piece of art.....it's a penis of a sea animal .......Balen is whale
"whiskers" that help pull in plankton for the whale to feed upon.......ALL these items probable are NOT PC,(or legal,in some
cases, UNLESS you are a NATIVE of Alaska).....my POINT.......ALASKA IS UNIQUE and you CAN NOT contain her or frame
her as "political correct" and "civil"........JMO
Well, while you're apologizing for Young, you can apologize for Carson:
Carson told FOX News host Sean Hannity Tuesday, “My thoughts are that marriage is between a man and a woman. It’s a well-established, fundamental pillar of society and no group, be they gays, be they NAMBLA, be they people who believe in bestiality–it doesn’t matter what they are–they don’t get to change the definition.”
Carson’s comparison of gay relationships to pedophilia (NAMBLA stands for the North American Man/Boy Love Association) and bestiality has caused the pediatric neurosurgeon to fall from his perch as a Republican rising a star in recent days.
And another stuck-in-the-past neanderthal bites the dust. They just can't help themselves...
Well, at least he won't be giving the commencement address at Johns Hopkins like he planned...

Show me who's apologizing for Young!
Seriously, LJ... Are you stoned or something?
John Boehner On Don Young Racial Slur: 'There's No Excuse' (UPDATE)
Multiple Republicans strongly condemned Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska) on Friday for his use of the slur "wetbacks" to refer to Latino farm workers, with House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) issuing statements rebuking the congressman's use of the term.
"Congressman Young’s remarks were offensive and beneath the dignity of the office he holds," Boehner said. "I don’t care why he said it -- there’s no excuse and it warrants an immediate apology."
Keep up the deflection, and apologizing, there froggie... There must be at least 3 Hispanics (out of 12 million) who might believe you. But I really DO want you to keep it up...
