Just agreeing with some of what you say. My Dad actually has a few pieces of Balene that has 'stories' scrawled on it from friends on the North Slope working the 'rigs.' Very cool and they are great artwork to add to all the other swag in his shop. As far as whale or whale blubber, my Dad tried both when we lived there, and he said it was some salty and god awful shyte. I never tried it cause he figured if he hated the crap out of it, the rest of the family prolly would too. I thank him for that. Had a chance to try Eskimo Ice Cream in elementary school but I took a pass. Moved down to the 'lower '48' when I was a later 14 year old and I don't have many complaints, save a few for all the Liberal structure. I love livin in the foothills of the Rockies, reminds me of home closer than most other places in Colorado, with the exception of Gunnison, Divide and a few others. I love it here, but Ak beats CO in many more ways than most, and I hope to move back there once my Wife decides that she can handle the cold. The lower '48 has all the coverage man, Alaska is mostly out of the limelight. I really hope it stays 'The Last Frontier.' To Hades with Hippies. I truly want my (our) home state to stay out of the national limelight. The 'lower '48' is riddled with bs, and I don't wanna see Ak fall down the drain with the rest of it. I like to visit family and friends there, and I don't want to see it polluted with Liberal Jazz Feces any more. Sure it will happen regardless, but I don't have to like it. [sarcasm/]Hopefully the puffins will attack the gapers next time they go on tour. Hahahahaha.[/sarcasm]
