New York Gun Control: Supreme Court Rejects Challenge To Concealed Weapons Law

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Supreme Court is staying out of the gun debate for now.

The justices on Monday declined to hear a challenge to a strict New York law that makes it difficult for residents to get a license to carry a concealed handgun in public.

The court did not comment in turning away an appeal from five state residents and the Second Amendment Foundation. Their lawsuit also drew support from the National Rifle Association and 20 states.

Good luck with those Colorado lawsuits against gun-control measures... They're going to stand...

Although this is from rural Texas, and I talk a lot of crap about Texas in my off time, I have friends from Texas, and this just seemed to hit the nail on the head. People with power think they can trump the rights of citizens, including those that are supposed to uphold those rights. I hope this isn't happening everywhere, but that'd be a stupid assumption:

Texas Soldier Arrested for ‘Rudely Displaying’ Weapon

I just got off the phone with Army Master Sergeant. C. J. Grisham, a serving American soldier and veteran of the the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, who recently was illegally disarmed by the Temple Police Department while out for a walk with his son.

“We live out in the country in Texas, near Temple,” he told me. “My son and I were on a ten-mile hike so that he could earn his hiking merit badge – it’s the last badge he needs to become an Eagle Scout.” But half way into the hike, Grisham said, “a police officer pulled up.” Initially, he was “cordial” and he “asked what we were doing.” Grisham told him. “Then he looked at my rifle. I carry a rifle any time I walk around because there are feral hogs and cougars and things like that.”

From here, things took a turn for the worse.

Read the article and tell me something reaaaaally good, and I suppose this is isolated from the rest of the continental U.S. There's a video as well. I happen to be friends with some of the old deputies that used to patrol up here in Jeffco, and this kind of crap is what gives the majority of law abiding, rights upholding police officers a bad name. Problem is this kind of sh** is spreading like wildfire because of the social pressure. Great.

I'll also say that those cops are a sorry excuse for law enforcement, and anyone that condones the actions of those officers are equally sorry excuses for Americans. :sarcasm: I especially like how that man mistakenly explained the LAW to those idiots with the badges. :sarcasm:

And per Gallup, only 4% of Americans think gun control is an important problem. So why is Obama expending so much political capital on it? Divert Americans from the continuing Obamarecession? When does it get to be declared his economy?

The American people have the majority...

In the run-up to the roll call expected Wednesday, so many Republicans had declared their opposition to the background check measure that supporters – mostly Democrats – seemed headed to defeat unless they could turn votes around in the final hours. Supporters seemed likely to lose some moderate Democratic senators as well.

“It’s a struggle,” New York Sen. Chuck Schumer, the No. 3 Senate Democrat, conceded Tuesday.

Perhaps helping explain Democrats’ problems, an AP-GfK poll this month showed that 49 percent of Americans support stricter gun laws. That was down from 58 percent who said so in January – a month after the December killings of 20 children and six aides at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school propelled gun violence into a national issue.

Just over half the public – 52 percent – expressed disapproval in the new survey of how President Barack Obama has handled gun laws. Weeks after the Newtown slayings, Obama made a call for near universal background checks the heart of his gun control plan. [/b][/i]

Let’s WASTE 4 months on unpopular legislation predicated on a tragedy committed by a freaking lunatic. The gnashing of teeth will be epic.
