Paranoid Tea Partiers? The IRS Admits They Had Reason To Be

Would you all be as outraged if this had been an LGBT group, or an abortion clinic? The IRS should not be profiling based on political agendas, though I do understand the need to profile based on financial red flags.

Instead of posting a "what if", how about giving us some past examples. And yes, I would be outraged if the IRS did this to any group, it's government tyranny (something Obama told us not to worry about).

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Why would you claim lefties would try to justify this? It's obviously wrong, they had no business doing it, and I'm glad to see them come clean.

This was more aimed at LJ, the tea party hate queen and religious bigot.

Maybe it's time to retire that broad brush.

Do you really need me to post the evidence? Sometimes I wonder if you and LJ are the same person.

I'm kinda sorry to see you use your hated for one poster taint everything you post. Not only is it unfair to other posters, but it keeps you from having any kind of reasonable discussion here. Put her on ignore and move on. LJ has more to offer here than you think, but like many right wing posters here, she has an "in your face" style. I'm sure you think that claiming LJ and I are one and the same is some kind of insult, but it's not.

National Review is saying Jewish groups were targeted too. And the IRS is supposed to be enforcing Obamacare.

It's pretty common knowledge among tax professionals that from time to time the IRS targets certain groups, but it is really hard to prove. I was surprised to see the IRS actually admit to it.

Especially people claiming religious tax deductions. A mole in the IRS?

I do not expect the left to try to justify this. Just that they will be very very quiet .

Would there be calls for impeachment if Romney were POTUS?

This is just what happens when government forgets they work for us and we the people forget it also. The halls of the IRS should be running red with blood. Figuratively speaking of course.

Report: Top IRS officials knew of Tea Party targeting two years ago

By Peter Schroeder - 05/11/13 03:26 PM ET

Senior officials with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) knew the agency was targeting Tea Party groups as early as 2011, according to a report.

The Associated Press reported Saturday that an upcoming report from a federal watchdog will find that top officials were aware of the targeting two years ago.

The report from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) is slated to be released next week — the AP obtained a draft copy of the report.

According to that draft, the head of the IRS division that overseas tax-exempt groups became aware that conservative groups were being targeted for scrutiny in June, 2011. The report does not say whether Douglas Shulman, IRS commissioner at the time, was aware of it.

This is the first time in my life that I've ever seen the IRS appoligize for targeting a specific group with more scrutiny. Where is the ACLU, and will they sue the IRS on behalf of Tea Party groups? The ACLU is there to protect everybody... right?

FWIW, Howie Kurtz about 46 minutes into his program "Reliable Sources" spent about 30 seconds saying he thinks this story is way under repoted. He thinks the story will get a lot more attention. Is he right? I doubt it.

"Weaponizing the IRS", one of the charges against Nixon in his impeachment. Time to begin impeachment proceedings against Holder and Obama?
