The Racist Paula Deen?

Celeb chef Paula Deen has recently been fired by both the Food Network and Smithfield foods, a major meat processor for telling the truth about some racist remarks she made years ago.
But this is also the same Paula Deen who campaigned for President Obama in 2008 and also supported his re-election.

Hyperbole run amok. This has been so blown out of proportion as to be unrecognizable and meaningless. Let the woman be.

The employers have every right to not renew her contract to avoid controversy, but if what you say in the past can be used against you today, there's a lot of people who should be fired yesterday. Al Sharpton comes to mind... BUT he is defending her because he was/is just as bad or worse and MSNBC seems to be fine with it. Bill Maher is also defending which isn't a surprise either considering his fine vocabulary. I do think Foodnetwork overreacted way too fast though.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Interesting about Sharpton. I would have expected Maher and him to go after Paula hard.

Maybe the Food Network and Smithfield will just quietly hire her back after a few months of "probation".

One account says she used the "n" word to her husband later that evening after having a gun held to her head when she was a robbed as a bank teller by an African American man. (Maybe after that, she thought cooking seemed safer.)

She refused to commit perjury.....was entrapped by a lawyer (so what is new)....she has courage - a rare commodity in our nation these days. Why not publish the lawyer's name
make him/her pay as Deen is paying. IF a Savannah lawyer that career will terminate ASAP......I promise. Southerners stick together and have looooonnnggggg memories.

"When they first show you who they are....BELIEVE them."........her FIRST fraudulent facade was her hypocrisy in NOT being straight
with the public about her health issues (diabetes) which was exacerbated by her cooking techniques. (her show PROMOTED unhealthy eating habits)......SORRY, from my POV,her credibility is questionable.

I don't think keeping ones health problems out of the public eye is some sort of charactor flaw. Celebrities should be allowed to keep some parts of their lives private witthout scrutiny. I doubt she ever asserted her food was healthy... southern food has a long history of being fatty and unhealthy (and she's never been skinny).

While I understand PRIVACY is paramount,in this case, she was raking in PROFITS from her deceit.....KNOWING full well her show
would suffer if she disclosed her diabetes. My understanding....she was OUTTED. (and then she disclosed the fact)....speaks to
her credibility from my POV...(if my understanding is INcorrect, please correct the post).
