Obamacare Subsidies Based on the Honor System

Not Qualified For Obamacare's Subsidies? Just Lie -- Govt. To Use 'Honor System' Without Verifying Your Eligibility

On Friday, Sarah Kliff and Sandhya Somashekhar of the Washington Post discovered that the Obama administration had buried in the Federal Register the announcement that the government won’t be able to verify whether or not applicants for Obamacare’s insurance exchange subsidies are actually qualified for the aid, in the 16 states that are setting up their own exchanges. Instead, until at least 2015, these states will be able to “accept the applicant’s attestation [regarding eligibility] without further verification.”

The goal here is plain as day. The Obama administration is laser-focused on making sure that enough Americans enroll onto Obamacare-subsidized health insurance platforms, because if they do, it will be politically impossible for Republicans to repeal Obamacare in the future.

That's right... they won't be able to repeal it. And the problem is?

Did you get permission from Forbes to cut and paste quotes from their article without giving proper attribution?

Or that you are quoting from an opinion piece rather than the original investigative article?

Of course if you had provided a link to the original investigative article, it would have pointed out the lies in your post. For example, 34 states will have the income of applicants for subsidies verified by the federal government. Hmm, that was not mentioned in your post or the opinion piece. 16 states are TEMPORARILY given a waiver from this (because they have are running their own exchange), but those applicants will be subject to further verification later on, and a random sampling will be subject to immediate verification. Hmm, neither your post, nor your opinion piece mentioned that. And if an applicant is caught fibbing about their income? Up to $25,000 penalty and repayment of the subsidies. Hmm, neither your post or the opinion piece mentioned that either. And all exchanges will be required to double verify applicant subsidies by 2016. Hmm, neither your post or the opinion piece mentioned that either.

But what can one expect from conservatives?

The problemS are many... already. NOBODY should be subsidized unless they qualify to be subsidized. This horrible bill will have enough issues as it is without relying on the honesty of the American people. It be different if the majority trusted the government, but they don't... so why should we expect people to be honest when it comes to being forced by the government to buy health insurance?

I predict these subsidies will increase faster than food stamps. And just like with college tuition, as subsidies and easy loans increase, so do the costs of the product.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Oh, yes, these mythical problems . The facts, if one was to read an honest report rather than a conservative hit piece, are that the majority of individuals applying for subsidies for their health insurance WILL have their incomes verified, and those in the minority who do not have their incomes immediately verified, will have to sign an oath as to their income, some of those will be randomly checked and the remainder will be subject to later verification. And those who are caught cheating will be subject to huge fines and penalties.

It is really sad that you seem to agree with the author of the hit piece that it is terrible that low income Americans will finally be able to afford decent health care.

What's sad is that you have complete faith in a massive bill that was never read by the people who passed it. And when it turns out to be a nightmare (even for Dems like you) who will you blame? I'm guessing you'll blame Republicans who voted against it or you'll somehow find a way to blame Bush.

When this goes into full effect, I'll enjoy reading your excuses for each and every bad consequence of the ACA... the list will be long and the consequences will be ugly.

What is sad that conservatives keep posting the same lies. I think it is a great thing that all Americans will have access to to affordable health care finally, while keeping costs from rising exponentially as they have in the past and reducing the national debt. I just don't understand why you and other conservatives believe that is such a bad thing.

Dog, I think you are expecting a lot more from the "Affordable" Healthcare Act than will actually be delivered. Did you see how many millions of Americans who will still not be covered?

Yes, there are millions who will not be covered, not until we have a truly universal single payer health system....but I have never understood the logic that says do nothing because you can't do everything. We start with what we can accomplish and build from there......the same issue has been brought up by Republicans with the immigration bill......because what has so far been proposed will not solve all the problems with illegal immigration in this country......they want to do nothing. Our country was not built by people who were afraid to make decisions and do something....building on the successes, correcting the mistakes, but never just doing NOTHING.

I'm not willing to punt all the problems down the road for our children and grand children to figure out........
