Seriously, anyone know this answer?I do have a question I haven't been able to find a clear answer to... If a person decides to pay the fine/tax, what happens if he then gets sick? What is the process for him to then get covered asap?
I answered this in another thread.
There is a yearly open enrollment period from Oct 1 to Dec 7 (extended one time to Mar 1 in 2014). If you get sick outside that period you can't get insurance. I think there is a 90 day wait time too, but not sure.

Rick wrote: So what's your guess? When the ACA is rolling at full speed, after all the delays and exemptions forced by the king, how many people do you predict will be uninsured? What would you do if you were 27 and in good health... pay the fine, or pay the premium?

It's not free if you're 27 little man. Show me your source or STFU and go pleasure yourself in your mommy's basement. It's "free" if you're poor no matter what age you are. When I was 27 I was making about 80k and this wouldn't have been free if we had it back then. I had a cheap catastrophic policy which is all most young, healthy, successful people need anyway.Vice Lord wrote:

You dumbass..Its free if you're 27...Who in thier right mind is going to pass up the tax credit, go without insurance, and pay a fine to do it? lol
If youre 27 and your insurance cost $1700, you'll get a $1700 tax credit..Understand how that works Rick? You know what a tax credit is don't you Rick?- thats free money.
So if there are any 27 year olds out there...Heres a tip: Do yourself and everyone in America a favor and......Take the free insurance

You missed the point... VL said if you're 27 then insurance is free... it's not. I have never once said on this or any board that poor people shouldn't get help, I would just prefer that a better law was thought out by smarter people that didn't destroy the whole in order to help the few. So far there are about 17,000 pages of extra rules and regulations for this mess and the pile keeps growing. At this point it would have just been better to raise taxes to pay for poor people's insurance and let the rest of us keep our choices. But the better way to start would have been to tackle the rising costs of care first, then mess with a new bill to cover the poor. JMOarcher wrote:

Cool...if you were making $80k you could afford insurance....many, many young, healthy, successful people DO find themselves with long term health issues that are very expensive....isn't it nice that they too will benefit from ACA......they won't be turned down for insurance because of a pre-existing condition.
