Call me a liberal or a democrat, but i'm niether...I'm am, and have always been A "quality of lifer"..I support whichever party improves the quality of life of Americans. Its just that simple- It just so happens that its always the democrats, and the Republicans are ALWAYS against anything that improves our lives..All they wanna do is improve the lives of corporations, thats who they represent- So in my mind, any person thats a republican is an idiot argueing against their own self interests..

The US is the only developed economy without legally mandated vacations and it’s costing our country more than just money.

I use all of my vacation and sometimes a little bit more but if you have ever tried to do business with Europe, you would hate it. Closed for banking holidays, Holy Week, August, September, Christmas holidays, Chinese New Year. Instead of a US buyer buying European or Chinese products, I want to move back to domestic suppliers. Knowing Americans work year around makes it more likely for me to buy from them.
So you and your UAW brethern gave Toyota and Honda a toehold in America and condemmed Detroit to the Dark Ages.

You're trying to baffle us with lots of words... did you really have to type all that just to remind us you're a hedonistic slacker?

Which is why we have problems getting things built by unionized workers and many companies have chosen to offshore that labor. Let's do some quick math using your figures, shall we?

52 weeks a year x 40 hours a week is 2080 hours.

Minus 6 weeks (240 hours) of paid vacation, leaving 1840 hours.
Minus 2 personal holidays (16 hours) which leaves 1824 hours.
Minus another 880 hours of paid sick leave results in a total of 944 productive hours for the employer, less than half the starting figure. And you wonder why no one wants to hire union workers anymore?

Most employees have access to paid time off ---- here's what they get.

http://www.bls.gov/ncs/ebs/benefits/201 ... _leave.htm
(not much - but more than 0).

When I worked overseas, we enjoyed:
- 30 paid days per year
- 10 Official holidays per year
- informal dispensation for other days off

The focus in the Middle East more on the quality of life than the volume of work. They had plenty of money, and wanted to take time off to enjoy it. I suppose that's fair enough.

I'm not going to fuss about this, politically ---- if you like another country's policies more - move there!

Hey dumbass..I know you think youre all worldly cause you spent a few months in Dubai- you can't help but bring it up no matter what the subject is, but you just can't go live out the rest of your life in another country unless they let you, and most of them won't...And this is America, if we don't like something, we can change it. I DON"T LIKE CORPORATE INTERESTS RUNNING THE COUNTRY. Thats not what our fore fathers had in mind, they wanted a government "for the people, by the people" remember? And you sound absurd saying in one hand that the rest of the world has paid time off, then you say because 10% of Americans have paid time off that our companies have to go out and get the rest of the world to get things manufactured.....

And to the ignorant that say giving people time off can't possibly work? Look at the rest of the world, look at Germany. We don't have to speculate about this..

VL,
Since you appear to know it all, maybe you should start a large corporation. Your extravagant vacation policy should help you to hire top talent. And your union laborers would be well worth their higher wages.
