Since violence erupted in March 2011, more than 100,000 people have lost their lives, according to UN estimates from June. Up-to-the-minute information about the conflict isn't widely available as the war-torn country is an especially dangerous place for journalists; 50 have died since the beginning of 2011 — far more than in any other country during the same time period, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
However, there are a few outlets that have been covering the war since the beginning, and they will be crucial for information if the U.S. or its allies do issue a military strike. Here's a list of Twitter users — some embedded in the country, others covering the conflict from the outside — to follow for reliable information about Syria.

Shameless plug: Lists on Twitter are awesome ways to filter info - I've created several on our @MyMountainTown account
including a Hwy 285 Corridor specific list, All Things Evergreen, Emergency Resources (good place when there's fire going on), Social Media, Ski Info, Outdoor Activities CO, Mac/Google/Tech Info, Entertainment and Arts, and hopefully someday will find time to put together a Football and Sci-Fi Fantasy List. I will bite. Is there any way to do this without having a Twitter account?

Yes... Bush LIED and thousands died... No getting around that...
And you should be so proud to want the next president that had to pick up the moron's disastrous legacy to suffer the same fate. Thanks for reinforcing my low-opinion of the neo-fascists of the Right.

It isn't that bad. I have a twitter account and only 10 followers. I find it a handy quick way to stay abreast of news. I have a mix of breaking news sites, column writers, comedians, some conservative and some liberal pundits.
Most of my tweets are just forwarding tweets I like, called re-tweeting.
Some of the most fun is going to certain hashtags when events are happening. So it is like have the funny guy at the bar making comments about the Broncos game, but there are thousands of people commenting. Or sometimes just a handful.
