NPR must have forgotten to include his political affiliation when they wrote this article.A federal jury has found Ray Nagin guilty of bribery and fraud. The former New Orleans mayor, 57, was accused of taking hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes and kickbacks, in an indictment that included 21 counts. He was found guilty on 20 of those counts.
Prosecutors also said Nagin accepted perks such as free travel and played a role in funneling money and granite to Stone Age, a company run by his sons. The counts cover a large portion of Nagin's two terms as mayor from 2002-2010, a tenure that included the Hurricane Katrina disaster of 2005.
A full conviction could have meant a prison sentence of more than 20 years and fines of more than $1 million. U.S. District Judge Helen Berrigan turned the case over to jurors around midday Monday, instructing them to examine each count against Nagin individually.

Not only is he corrupt, he's f***ing stupid as well. He had the option of copping a plea and getting five years, now he's looking at least 20 :LMAO: . Maybe Obama will pardon him because they share the same skin color.BlazerBob wrote: A dirty democrat, I am shocked I tell you, shocked. I thought only r's were corrupt.

Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, whose desperate pleas for help during Hurricane Katrina drew national attention, walked silently out of a courthouse Wednesday after a jury convicted him of federal corruption charges.
Nagin was elected as a reformer in 2002. But after a two-week trial that began in late January, he was found guilty of 20 out of 21 counts of bribery, money laundering, fraud and filing false tax returns, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The sole acquittal was on one of the bribery counts.

Oh I don't know Otis, of course the NPR article didn't mention the word felony for some reason, but I know he got a couple felonies and even profited from his immorallity during the Katrina mess, where he failed miserably. I hope there's not much love for this dirtbag, even from his past supporters... surely even they would be outraged and not likely to be satisfied with a short sentence.otisptoadwater wrote: Wait and see how the sentencing goes. I predict a light sentence, automatic appeals, and an eventual pardon or a drastically reduced sentence (not necessarily in that order). Justice won't be served but it might get an IOU or two if Ray spends a few months in Prison. Anyone know what minimum security, Federal Country clubs Ray might have some exclusive access to for a few months?
