Evidence of water flowing on Mars?

If so, it's intriguing as it is a strong step toward finding some form of life.

But, I had to post this for the funny comments more than anything. It's why I put it here instead of in the Science Lab .

Are these pictures of water flowing on Mars, right now?

Scientists at JPL say that new analysis of pictures taken on Mars contains the "strongest indication" that there is water flowing on the red planet, right now.

Researchers have long theorized that Mars had at one point held flowing water, and probably even held frozen water still. But, the presence of darkening lines moving downwards along a slope as the temperatures rise in the warmer months, suggests that there could be water flowing even now — and also suggests a mechanism for how it might be able to do it.

So, how does water flow in the frigid Martian temperatures that are present, even in the summer months? Researchers think that there may be a naturally-occurring anti-freeze in the water, caused by the high-iron content, which they were able observe by layering mineral maps over the area where the flows seemed to be happening:

Just some of the comments: :LMAO:

What if there's oil on mars?

If true, NASA would suddenly have a budget. Or probably more realistically, we would witness a new Space Race between BP, Exon and Shell.

Would evidence of oil on Mars be more persuasive to fund future missions than evidence of microbe life on Mars? The optimist in me picks the latter.

But the cynic in me picks the former. We could frak the Hell out of Mars and there wouldn't be any tree-hugging, spotted owl loving hippies to stop us. Tuesday 6:42pm

Heya SC, you do know by posting that here in the courthouse you will get one of the three folling reposnses:

1. Was it a bad political thing? Blame Obama
2. Was it due to corruption? Blame Democrats...
3. Did something good come form it? I had to be the republicans.

Nothing but blinders and tunnel vision is all that remains here.
Good luck SC!

Like to think Edgar Rice Burroughs and Lovell(?) were right and there are canals there on Barsoom, even if they are only natural.

And I hope it would inspire more money on space exploration and colonization. I am sad that so many of the science fiction timelines I grew up have been missed. If you have told me in 1976 that by 2014, humans hadn't visited Mars, I would have been quite upset.

I thought they already knew there had been water on Mars years ago.

I hate to sound like a broken record but I just happen to be reading a short SF story about our first expedition to Mars (no, really). We uncover a dead civilization that ether died out as their planet dried out or as they despoiled it. Haven't finished yet but it will turn out that the remnants escaped to Earth and became our ancestors. It was written in the mid 50's.

You know I love ya netdude, but that's bullsh**. If all I ever focused on in my life was the sh** that other people do or say about me or my opinions, I would've committed suicide before I even left puberty. I certainly wouldn't be running a community forum in which our vision is to provide a place for everyone to share their own opinions as they wish; agreement is not expected or guaranteed.

I'd much rather focus on trying to make things better by leading by example with my own behavior, fighting for what's right when need be, and learning to not take criticism personally. I know you support me and this business, but when you only make comments like the one above, and your last one in this forum, you need to realize that it only tears this business down. How about some constructive criticism or adding content you like to this place and debating facts with people instead of just complaining how they respond?

And while I'm on the subject, this isn't a "fact-free echo chamber" either - it would be that if only conservatives or only liberals were allowed to post here. That's not the case. It will become that if one side decides themselves to stop participating, and it certainly ebbs and flows back and forth depending upon what's happening in the larger world. This board reflects the community it represents and we're not going to agree with each other because we have beliefs that are all over the spectrum. If there's something you don't agree with, debate the facts and don't be surprised if you don't change anyone's minds - people hold onto beliefs tightly. Instead, enjoy the intellectual exercise, or try to learn something new - you never know when you'll meet someone who will become a new friend. Lord knows it's happened many times through the history of forums in this area alone.

Off soap box. You all can do what you will. I just found the damn comments funny. Especially the one about oil on Mars.
