Personal responsibility? I think we found some common ground. Break out the champagne!

Exactly, but LJ's real message is to paint others with the "crazy brush". But she won't do it with her Messiah Obama, even though he also believes in the magic man in the sky.

Rick, not every thread is about Obama,

This thread is rather interesting, I see those who I suspect are not "true believers" taking that stance in the debate, perhaps because they want to bolster their conservative credentials. I know where LJ stands and appreciate her consistency..... the Bible has never interested me much, having been raised Southern Baptist and finding out at a pretty young age that the Bible is in the eye of the beholder. Whatever you want to find there, is there. You can justify, excuse, condemn, or glorify just about any behavior with a passage from somewhere in the Bible. Like LJ I have little sympathy for someone who tempts fate by deliberately causing their own death in the name of religion. Same for those who set themselves on fire in the name of religious ferver. My own belief system revolves around personal responsibility and being a moral individual. If the Bible helps you do that, great. If, however, you use the Bible as an excuse for your own perverted behavior, than I believe you have missed the point of religion.

Same for those who use religion as an excuse for war, for persecution of others, for financial gain, and to justify their hate.

I've read enough of her anti-religion posts to know her true intentions. She loves to find a religious nutbag to use as the face of the entire religion... I just like pointing out that her hero in chief believes the same as the average believer she loves to mock. Unless of course he's lying about his beliefs.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

There was nothing in LJ's OP that linked this nut job to all religious people, it was pretty specific to this one dude. I still fail to see where Obama fits in, I never heard him mention snakes in his discussion of his faith. The fact that LJ, and even I, respect our president's faith while not sharing it, puts in doubt your assertion that she is mocking religion and all those who believe .

Yes I must. An alternate explanation of the meaning of life. Is it more fantastic than any interpretation of the Bible. Prove it wrong then get back to me on how open minded you are.
(Sidebar: glad I looked this up. Apparently it is being made into a movie.)

The Unpleasant Profession of jonathan Hoag.

" Hoag tells them he is an art critic. The art in question is their entire world, created by an "artist" as a student project. Critics live as inhabitants in the world, not knowing they are Critics, in order to judge the experiences. One such experience is eating and drinking, as Hoag points out, since the simple act of gaining energy to live had not been thought of as an "experience" previously. Another is sex, but this is thought to be ridiculous until Hoag realizes that it is the basis for "the tragedy of human love" that he sees between Ted and Cynthia. Hoag's artistic judgment is that, while there is much that is amateurish in the world, overall its Creator has real promise.
The Sons of the Bird are responsible for all the things that Ted and Cynthia have seen, including the times they saw Hoag during the day. They only encountered the real Hoag in their home and office. The Sons were an early artistic mistake, hurriedly "painted over" rather than eliminated in the rush to complete the work, but still holding power."

and for the truly psychotic. yet how do you really know?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/They_(Heinlein )

The story concerns a man who is confined to a mental institution because he is suffering from the delusion that he is one of the few "real" entities in the universe, and that the other "real" entities have created the rest of the universe in a conspiracy to deceive him. He spends much of the story engaged in verbal sparring with the psychiatrist who is caring for him, and in pondering his predicament, trying to figure out a way to prove that his belief is true. On the final page of the story, the reader discovers that his belief is true;

I stand by my statement that the world is a slightly better place when someone that stupid removes himself from it.

Any sentence started with "The Bible tells us ...." is ridiculous in the first place. Apparently, the "Bible told HIM" that he should let poisonous snakes bite him. No one else is responsible for his interpretation of such a book but himself.

I see our resident drive by troller is back spewing forth more of her bigotry. Is the concept that "us" refers to those who share the same faith such a difficult concept to grasp that it eludes her limited comprehension abilities? Take your hatred of religion elsewhere troll, we have no use for it here.

I'm sure the coward has you on ignore too PS, you'll have to summon one of her flying monkeys to quote you in order for her sensitive eyes to see this.

"The people who wrote it..." A all inclusive bigoted statement that denigrates the foundation of the whole religion itself. She says "Ignorant savages" and you say "puts in doubt your assertion that she is mocking religion and all those who believe."

Bullsh*t. You can't read, can you. Period.

For those obsessed with Obama-Derangement-Syndrome, they can insert Obama into ANY situation, whether it was there to begin with, or not. That's why I keep Rick on IGNORE. He hasn't learned how to wipe the foam from his chin and move on.
