Ebola Patients Being Flown to America

04 Aug 2014 07:17 - 04 Aug 2014 08:38 #1 by FredHayek
Some Americans are really spooked by this, but I think they will be able to prevent infection of others as long as the numbers stay low. Was interested to read that the plane flying people back only has room for one Ebola patient per trip. How expensive is that? To fly one patient from west Africa to Atlanta.

Anyone here think it is a bad idea?

Some American are low information citizens that can't even bother to take a few minutes and Google the facts about Ebola. That's their problem, let them huddle scared in their hovels.

If you were in West Africa, flat out on your back, infected with Ebola, would you even be asking that question?

I am more concerned about the following:
Among the significant revelations are that individuals from nations currently suffering from the world’s largest Ebola outbreak have been caught attempting to sneak across the porous U.S. border into the interior of the United States. At least 71 individuals from the three nations affected by the current Ebola outbreak have either turned themselves in or been caught attempting to illegally enter the U.S. by U.S. authorities between January 2014 and July 2014."

This recent outbreak started in March 2014. It takes 2 days to 3 weeks for symptoms to appear. After that they are usually dead in a couple of weeks. Those that survive can pass the virus for up to seven weeks in semen.

I wouldn't worry about the 71 mentioned above. Most of them would be sick, dead or recovered by now. There could be a concern that further persons crossing the border could be problematic, but I would expect (not certain) that the folks at the border are on heighten alert for that possibility.

The 71 who were detained are not the issue. If one can strap dynamite or C-4 to their bodies and detonate, why would it not be probable that someone is intentionally infected and then sent across the border.

With the jet age, people can become infected and be on another continent the next day. Not like the old days when a long sea voyage would cull the sick and infected.

Having followed the Walking Dead, my first thought when I heard they were being flown into Atlanta was the start of the zombie apocalypse.

But seriously, the press coverage about this has been obscene. With that and the social media, this is getting way too much attention and there are crazy theories. I've even heard it blamed on Obama (of course) because he supposedly approved bringing them into the country. I don't know if it's true he had to approve it, but if so I'd think he'd of gotten even more criticism if he didn't let them in the country since they are Christian missionaries.

I'm not one bit concerned. Ebola is not an airborne disease. The CDC has treated SARS cases in the past with no problems and SARS is airborne. Bringing them back home for treatment was the right thing to do.

My understanding...per the WSJ,a clinical test NEW drug is being utilized on the patients being brought
to the US. It is ALSO my understanding that body fluids is the ONLY way this disease is transmitted.

In the countries in question, superstition and distrust are a predominant factor for contacting this
disease, the families will SECRETLY deal with the family member exposed, then SECRETLY deal with the
body afterwards..thereby increasing the spread of the disease.

And a stray dog can bite you and you get rabies.

And anyone could come in legally on a plane ANY DAY OF THE WEEK, infected and ready to do "battle." And they don't have to come from West Africa. Honestly, think critically, think critically.

Hi Rev,
Yes "A stray dog can bite you and you can get rabies" Not sure of your point, Rabies has a definite treatment and it is hard to find a dog in the US with rabies. vets will tell you that rabies cases in the US come from mammals other than dogs. e.g. raccoons .
You are correct in that anyone can enter the US legally and could have an infectious disease. Using your caps, THANK GOD FOR CUSTOMS AND BORDER CONTROL, I am sure they will append the culprit, hopefully he/she will have stained their underwear like the Detroit Underwear Bomber.
