The US and other nations have used sanctions against North Korea for decades. Has the technique achieved their goals? Not really, Kim is still living the high life, atomics are still being made, and rockets are still being built. The one thing sanctions did achieve is make it even tougher on the North Korean serfs. Due to sanctions and socialism, North Koreans tend to be a foot shorter than their South Korean neighbors. And suffer from a lot more malnutrition. I can understand why governments play the sanctions card. It is a tool, but a pretty ineffective one. Iraq didn't overthrow Saddam due to sanctions. Iran didn't overthrow the Mullahs due to sanctions. Russia didn't get rid of Putin due to sanctions. And the Castro's held power for decades despite sanctions.

The question is why did the idiot king overrule these sanctions? If the answer is no more than because he "likes" a dictator, that's pretty alarming even by his standards.

He's using psychology, maybe it will work and maybe it won't. We already know what doesn't work (see the last 4 presidents). What better ideas do you have? Should the president taught him and threaten.

The only reason our government is in "disarray" is because half of it has wasted two years trying to take down the duly elected president, therefore they are not working to help the people, only themselves.

It was always the women, and above all the young ones, who were the most bigoted adherents of the Party, the swallowers of slogans, the amateur spies and nosers−out of unorthodoxy

Kim is obviously vain, and he loves to be center stage, one of the reasons he has nukes and rockets capable of delivering them but I don't know if Trump is doing this to get concessions out of the Dear Leader or if this is more something related to China. China can be quite the puppet master to North Korea, so this might be more a deal to please Beijing? It does seem opposite to The Donald walking out early of their summit in Vietnam. Good Cop/Bad Cop?

One good thing? Kim hasn't shooting testing rockets at the Sea of Japan for the past 20 months. Or testing nukes.

This didn't give Kim a stage and the good cop and bad cop can't be the same person.

A meeting with the President of the United States is not a stage? Better tell that to the media.
" the good cop and bad cop can't be the same person." Why not?

Nyet, tovarishch. The subject of this thread is not a meeting, it is the overruling of sanctions.

Exactly! How many small countries like North Korea get a summit with the President of the United States? Multiple summits actually.
