Green New Deal Defeated In A Bipartisan Senate Vote

AOC crafted this bill and said it needs to be passed quickly because without it, the human race will cease to exist in 12 years! Senate leader McConnel rushed it to the floor yesterday for a vote. No one voted for it. A bipartisan group of senators (57?), voted against the bill which combined environmental ideals and socialist proposals to help out those who don't feel motivated to work. Democrat senators refused to go on record as supporting Ocasio-Cortes bill, even though many were co-sponsors. Instead they took the bizarre tactic of just voting "Present".

While I appreciate AOC's enthusiasm, and absolutely agree that we need legislation to address mitigating the effects of global warming, any bill that is not crafted bi-partisanally is going to be vilified. AOC handed McConnell this gift on a platter - I posted elsewhere that Pelosi wasn't supporting it because she knew it was dead in the water and that he'd use it as a political tool (Mr. "We Don't Vote on Nonsense Bills for Political Show" hypocritically pulled a 180 on this one) so it was a waste of time. That stunt in Dianne Feinstein's office by the Justice Dems (AOC's supporters) trapping her with the kids pushing her to support this bill was horrible too. I sincerely hope AOC is learning her lessons, but I have my doubts.

Still, Republican candidates will reap what they sow at the ballot boxes if they continue to hold to the party line that global warming isn't happening, isn't caused by humans, or will cost too much to deal with so we shouldn't kill our economy trying to do so. The majority of the public, our military, and our insurance industry understands that we are now seeing the effects and how devastating it will be to our livelihoods and economy if we keep doing nothing. It would be nice if we could get back to listening to those who are most knowledgeable on science and implementing sound policies for the good of the people and benefit of our nation.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
