King Soopers Thought Problem?

I am not going to make a judgment, but I am just curious. When the Boulder King Soopers shooting started, the store manager was having a smoke break outside, probably the back of the store. The sound of shots fired sent the manager and a cashier running away from the store. It is a classic, fight or flight scenario, so you often react subconsciously and try to save yourself. But does anyone think she shirked her duty to her customers and employees by not going back into the store? Or waiting for police to come assist them with the layout of the store and other information they might need to stop the shooter? Or maybe even more cleanly stated, should she have risked her life to help save her employees and customers? Or she shouldn't be expected to risk her life since she isn't a trained peace officer?

Were any of the employees armed and able to stop a crazy ass with a gun? If the answer is no, then the answer is, of course not. "Gun free zones" are the most prime and obvious targets for people who have the desire to kill people. Police officers are just people with guns and if they are on the outside trying to get in, they are at a disadvantage. The only way this guy could have been kept from killing so many people is if there were an adequate number of trained gun carrying citizens around him.

I know, there's always the chance a citizen is inadvertently injured or killed by "friendly fire", which is also possible when an officer fires a weapon. The question is, would you rather be in that store with a bunch of people who can't fight back and lessen the odds for the killer? I'm pretty sure the victim's families wish there were trained people in there with tools to mitigate such a tragedy.

I don't remember where I read the quote from the store manager. And that doesn't matter, I don't want to judge her behavior, I am just setting up a scenario. It could be, she ran back later and made the announcement you said. Do you think a manager is duty bound to risk their life and stay on scene?

The only people I can think of that have a duty to take that kind of risk would be armed police officers, which happens many times a day across this country. People like myself who carry are not obligated but should be expected to help if the situation dictates.

Kroger shouldn't be allowed to hold it against her if she ran, but I can see where some bosses would say: "A team player would have gone back in."

ALTRUISM...for some people it is innate, for others not so much...I really do not think one knows how they would react, until the event occurs...I try to be situational aware, but I have never had to experience a traumatic
event. I do know I will get out of my car and stop traffic, if an animal is in danger...last year we had a baby lamb sneak under the wire fence,Mom was on one side, baby on the other and was frantic to get back to mom,A truck was stopped trying to get the animal wrangled, I hopped out of car and stopped traffic both ways, till another person was able to get it under the fence again.....I have done that with a dog on 285
when we lived in Bailey.

Gone back in and done what, hit the guy with a big russet potato? Gun free zones are also defense free zones.

Help people get out? She could steer employees and customers in shock where exits where and to lead them there.

I am pretty sure that at no time during her employment was anything said about running to the sound of gunfire.
I am mystified as to why the question is even being asked.
