White House Colludes with Big Tech Monopoly to Censor Speech

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Thursday the Biden administration is identifying “problematic” posts for Facebook to censor because they contain “misinformation” about COVID-19.

Psaki disclosed the government’s role in policing social media during her daily press briefing after Surgeon General Vivek Murthy called on companies to purge more pandemic posts.

The demand for censorship — and Psaki’s admission of government involvement — follows a series of flip-flops from health officials who contradicted themselves throughout the pandemic on issues such as mask efficacy, as well as censorship of claims that later gained credibility, such as the theory that COVID-19 leaked from a Chinese lab.

I suppose this is a great idea if you trust this or any other administration to always have the facts which can not be disputed. What kind of country would we have in a decade if this trend continues? Btw, the Biden administration is only using "trusted" sources... trusted by who?

Why use Facebook, etc.?

Perhaps an area where I and other posters, (we disagree on many issues) have common ground. Social media has become a sop (a conciliatory or propitiatory bribe, for those who like polysyllabic words) to people. In return for this "convenient communication method" these companies are into your personal data whether you know it or approve of it.

Ostensibly Facebook, etc. are private companies and can do with their data what they like. However if you do not use their platforms they cannot access your personal data and communications.

I am vey curious as to why there is no competition in this area. Monopoly, perhaps?

Putin and Xi should take notes on how Biden is controlling what Facebook permits. And today President Biden says Facebook is killing Americans because of permitting vaccine skepticism. But please note, President Biden and VP Kamala both disparaged the vaccines produced under Operation Warp Speed despite receiving their doses before Inauguration Day.

All good points, but I'd love to hear from those who are ok with the government pressuring private companies to censor speech. I never thought I'd see this day, but here we are. Once the precedent is set, what's to stop them from censoring people for other "misinformation" that doesn't jive with the governments' narrative on everything, including their political opponents (well, they already did that one).

Watching Psaki admit all of this like it's just the normal American way. As we've witnessed over and over and over again, information is constantly changing and evolving. Think of how many people should have been censored early on in this pandemic when it came to the source of the virus, masks, and even the vaccines that surely couldn't be developed as fast as Trump promised, but they were.

Every word huh? Now if I said that about Biden (who lies on a regular basis), you'd demand sources to back that up.

How about you just address the topic for once, which is government pushing a massive private monopoly to censor speech since the government can't do it. I just want to know if you think that is a good precedent to set in a country where we are supposed to have freedom of speech. I've never read anywhere that freedom of speedh only pertains to speech that the government deems to be accurate.

Facebook is not a monopoly. There have been many attempts to start a right-wing version of the successful endeavor, but each and every one has largely failed (Parler, GETTR, etc). You could even try and start one yourself.

LOL, what is false information? In March 2020, when Fauci told us masks aren't necessary for American citizens? Or July 2021, when Los Angeles says people indoors need to return to wearing masks? Even when the CDC disagrees.
