Well, that's my point. And not trying to find fault - just an observation on my part. The rank and file pushed him up the ladder as you say, and when he won the primary the party big wigs ran away like he was Typhoid Mary. Now, granted, to me he IS Typhoid Mary. But since the rank and file elected him, I think the party big wigs should have sucked it up and supported him. The whole episode tells me that the party doesn't give a damn about what their constituents want, they just want to do things their way.
On the other hand, Maes should have dropped out a long time ago.
And having said all that, I'm guessing that a lot of the folks who voted for him in that primary are kicking themselves.
