Texas Considers Medicaid Withdrawal
Some Republican lawmakers — still reveling in Tuesday’s statewide election sweep — are proposing an unprecedented solution to the state’s estimated $25 billion budget shortfall: dropping out of the federal Medicaid program.
Far-right conservatives are offering that possibility in impassioned news conferences. Moderate Republicans are studying it behind closed doors.
What that will do is just move the problem to another state......just as Arizona's law will move the illegal problem to other states. Once the states start opting out of federal programs we are looking at a disintigration of this nation into state controlled fifedoms.

The question is, will other Republican-controlled states follow suit and will they stop at Medicare or cut more programs, like social security?

You might want to do some checking up on the county hospital districts in Texas, specifically the Harris County Hospital District (Houston) and Dallas County Hospital District (Dallas). Both districts provide excellent health care for the citizens in two of the large North American cities. Either hospital district provides coverage for populations greater than the state of Colorado.
You will find that many, if not all, Texas counties have hospital districts (very similar to Denver's hospital district). They don't need Medicaid because ALL property owners pay taxes to fund the hospital district. As a citizen of Harris and Dallas County you have option of having public health or pay for private health insurance. If you don't have private health insurance, you have access to low cost hospital and medical services. The services are not free, but low cost.
This is an excellent model and provides access to all citizens of Harris and Dallas County.
Four years ago, my step father in law received exceptional care at Ben Taub. Quadruple bypass surgery at a low cost. I have a friend who is currently at Ben Taub. He's been in the hospital since April. He contacted a flesh eating disease and nearly died twice. He's receiving excellent care at very low cost to him.
Again, Texas is telling the Federal Government to go fly off and take rules that are attached to the monies received.
We can only hope that leadership in Colorado will do the same. We can only hope that Colorado will develop a plan similar to Denver Health, Harris County, and Dallas County. We need more sign of things like this to come.

PG: Medicare=Old Medicaid=Poor CHIPs=kids Obamacare= bottom middle class. Screwed= the rest of us. I know, its hard keeping track of all these entitlements.
Medicaid (poor) = State run, Fed funded 60%, State funded 40%. States that are paying attention see that Obamacare is going increase medicaid (poor) costs in the future. So they want to opt out and fund it and run it themselves. They should have that option. How it will work remains to be seen.
