AP-GfK Poll: Public backs GOP on taxes, not health

WASHINGTON – People back Republican tax cut plans but not the GOP campaign to repeal President Barack Obama's health care overhaul, according to a poll suggesting that the Republicans' big Election Day win was not a mandate for the party's legislative wish list.

Fifty-three percent say income tax cuts that soon will expire should be renewed for all — including the highest earners, as Republicans want — according to an Associated Press-GfK Poll conducted just after last week's elections. But 44 percent would continue the cuts only for those earning under $250,000 a year — which Obama favors — or let them lapse for everyone.

When it comes to the health care law Obama signed in March, just 39 percent back the GOP effort to repeal it or scale it back. Fifty-eight percent would rather make even more changes in the health care system or leave the measure alone.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 63% of Adults believe an age limit should be set for older drivers when they are required to take annual tests before having their driver's licenses renewed. Twenty-four percent (24%) don’t think that’s such a good idea, while 12% more are not sure.

It's so funny when someone posts a poll from AP and the radical righties go after the messenger with ad hominem attacks, if the poll doesn't fit with their preconceived notions.

But, if the poll supports what they believe, they're okay with it and use it to support their argument.

It's a friggin poll, guys. It's not left or right... it just is.

Anyone else would just say, "Huh, that's interesting," and then discuss it rationally.

Pineguy, the ignore function is a wonderful thing.

Yep. I guess I'm going to add more people to it. I was trying to give them a chance to have actually have an adult discussion but they seem to be stuck in junior high. Oh well. Can't say I didn't try.

I'm getting less and less out of this forum. I think I'll give trying to have a meaningful discussion with these guys a rest.
