The Postal Service And Its Competition
Delivering mail house to house, six days a week, is something letter carriers guarantee. But in these days of FedEx, e-mail and online bill-paying services, there's not as much mail to deliver.
That's part of why the U.S. Postal Service wants to cut its losses and end Saturday deliveries.

It will take more than cutting Saturday delivery to save the Postal Service. But it's a start....
1. Need to discontinue express package delivery.
2. Need to go to more community mail boxes instead of home delivery.
3. Need to hire more young people.
4. Locally that could close the Pine and Indian Hills Post Office.

If the private economy has a method to deliver letters and packages, then we should let the PO go....
Keep in mind we have a govt. to take care of what we cannot take care of ourselves (or at least we used to). I know this will sound odd to the 285 corridor, which like big gov and likes replacing the private economy with govt. services, but the private economy can always serve you better, at the right price, even if higher, it is the right price.

They need to stop paying $28 or more an hour.
They also need to think with a business head and look at what both unions associated with the PO are demanding...
I only pick up my mail once a week anyways, so no mail on Saturday doesn't bother me...it isn't because of the "people" that this has been denied...it is because the unions don't want their "people" to take any cuts in pay.

When these reports first started surfacing, they were talking that the day off would vary locally depending on which day tended to be slowest for that individual location. It seems that they are now settling on Saturdays nationally. When I see arguments against dropping it that include "I'd miss seeing my mail carrier on weekends", I laugh. "resident Bill Webb ...says many in his South L.A. neighborhood would miss their beloved letter carrier on the weekends." (from CG's NPR article)
I'm hoping that this spurs Netflix to increase their selection of On-Demand/Watch Instantly videos; waiting for them to get through the mail is a waste of time anyway. If you need a check or Rx, then go pick it up or schedule it more efficiently ahead of time - it shouldn't be that critical to get it on That day.
