BTW, NPR says the DREAM act will not get through the Senate, more filibuster action.

Maybe recraft the bill next session to only include the military path to citizenship?

The DREAM act repeals act 505 of the IIRIRA of 1996 which penalizes states that offer in state tuition to illegals. Now the decision is left up to the states which is where it belongs. Perhaps you guys should read it before you decide your position. So far all of your objections have been proven false.

It's wrong to allow anyone in this country illegally any benefits what-so-ever.
I hope everyone understands this concept - because if you don't, your screwed up in the head.

The only benefit I would be in favor of would be a free bus ride back across the border.

That includes the benefit of taxpayer funded education. We are going to give those who broke into the country a discount on education when we have Americans in line waiting?

That's so wrong it's not even worth discussing. Get um the hell out of here - they can apply legally to come back in the future.

And yea - this thing is dead once it hits the senate - and even more dead come January.

Do you really think they care what someone who isn't in their state thinks?

Bennett surely must.

Illegal is illegal. Boot em...seal the borders...start over with laws and policies that get enforced. Any congressman who would vote otherwise better enjoy their final two years at the country club.

Even the right wing pollsters at Rasmussen found that most Americans favor the passage of the DREAM act. After all- what sense does it make to educate these youngsters and then send that investment off for another country to benefit from?

Seems to me that in order to avoid wasting the investment the thing to do is send them off before we spend any money on them in the first place. No investment on the front side yields no waste of the investment on the back end.

With regards to repealing Act 505 of the IIRIRA, that Act is a federal law, correct? That means that any state which gives in state tuition rates to someone who has violated the federal immigration laws is subjected to losing some, not all, of the money confiscated from the rest of the taxpayers in the union for their transgression, correct? Either the federal government does or does not have the ability to withhold federal dollars when federal edicts are ignored. If this sudden shift to States' Rights by the progressives is to be believed, why then isn't welfare also the responsibility of the states, and health care for the citizens of that state, or their Social Security, or what size a child must be to not be in a restraint system in a car, or the BAC level is that determines whether or not someone behind the wheel is intoxicated, or the speed limits on the highways or what food must be served in the state school cafeterias, or what subjects must be covered in the state school classrooms, or any of the other myriad levels of federal intrusion into what was considered by every rational person to be within the state sovereignty only prior to the 1932 elections?

It's not that I disagree with you on whether or not the state has the sovereignty to decide for itself whether or not to offer in state tuition to an illegal alien ckm8, but I have to wonder why that perfectly rational position you hold is not also perfectly rational when applied to every other area of the federal government's usurpation of the rights of the states? And further, what business does the federal government have supporting state education at any level with funds confiscated from the rest of the union in taxes? Why are federal dollars being spent in any school in any state and where did the authority for them to do this come from?

Most Americans don't understand that DREAM is really a NIGHTMARE. Sucks for all the outstanding immigrants who paid dearly to become American citizens legally.

And since when does it matter what the majority of Americans want?
