Dems using Tucson shooting to Stifle Free Speech

I don't want to be alarming to anyone who knows me, but I ALMOST thought about going over to PC, where the people( bad memory due to to old age) didn't seem to be as insane as LJ, Archer and others who can't admit that they have been using this to attack without any cause except to further thier sick agenda.

:rofl

Now that really is too funny, you really think the conservatives here have not exploited this tragedy? Really? what planet are you living on? You all have the poor sheriff of Pima Country responsible for the deaths, you all have the suspect's parents responsible for the deaths, you all have been using this tragedy to your own purposes since day one. And now, you are using this tragedy to score points against liberal posters here who genuinely care about what happened and why.....who genuinely care about how we can prevent more such incidents, who genuinely care about the climate of hate in this country.....I am disgusted with the conservatives who can't recognize that this nation is falling into an atmosphere of hate and anger....guess you like it that way, it feeds into your own sense of hate and anger against those who don't think like you. One of you even wants to kill all liberals who can't be converted to conservatism.

Don't you lecture liberals about exploiting this tragedy when you and your cohorts here have spent days spewing all the hate and anger that has built up in you probably since Obama was elected. This tragedy just gave you a perfect opportunity to let it all out, and you took it.

this is being used to clamp down on free speech. perhaps some politicians need to think about what they say about others but not impose more restrictions because of a the lunatic fringe. pretty soon we will look like china. the government deciding what we can see on the news, tv, internet, etc.

What we do believe in is taking personal responsibility for what you say, especially if you are in a high profile position. I know it's too much to ask of some people to think before they speak, but it surely would be nice if they did.

So would you hold our president to the same standard (think before he speaks)? I guess we all will have to start walking on eggshells now when we speak because a crazy guy killed people. Our whole society has been subjected to every kind of violent act imaginable in the movies and TV.....maybe we should consider that too? Nobody on the left seemed to have a problem with the movie about killing GWB. Could that not have inspired a possible assasination attempt?

When I say high profile people, I include everyone...president, speaker, talk show hosts, political wannabes.....this sort of angry climate just escalates, is it too much to ask people, including those everyday people posting on message boards, to add some civility to the conversation?

I have stated before, I don't see a direct connection between some individuals words and an angry gunman's actions, it's more subtle than that. When our children grow up in a society based on us vs them, of hate and anger directed against our neighbor because they don't think, or look, or act like we do.....why are we surprised if they grow up to be angry and intolerant?

For once I agree with you. It would have been nice to see only thoughtful comments about the dead and injured immediately after the shootings instead of insinuating blame before ANY facts were known. I see little hope for change, especially around here.

here's another, I know he's not a "democrat" although he votes with the left 110% of the time.

Good ole Bernie Sanders.
Sanders Fundraises Off Arizona Murders.

In light of all of this violence – both actual and threatened – is Arizona a state in which people who are not Republicans are able to participate freely and fully in the democratic process? Have right-wing reactionaries, through threats and acts of violence, intimidated people with different points of view from expressing their political positions?

Editorial: Tea party joins fray in exploiting Tucson shooting

Within those first hours, and the days after, the nation's focus should have been on the victims – U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, the target of the attack, and the 18 other people who were either killed or wounded. By speculating on motives and rushing toward an indictment, tea party critics attempted to exploit a national tragedy for their own purposes.

Sadly, the Tea Party Express is engaged in its own form of exploitation in the aftermath of this carnage. On Tuesday morning the group e-mailed a fundraising plea – "Please stand with Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh + Tea Party" – that urged supporters to help it raise money so it could counter "the attack on conservatives."
