Fingers crossed for you, MB, and hopes your daughter gets home safe. A friend of mine has his entire family in Japan except his parents - all the cousins, aunts, uncles, etc. I keep my hopes up for anyone over there. Just watching the videos the other night in the wee hours was astronomical - cars washed away like they were micro machines dumped out of a tub of water - I cannot imagine.

As the left has reminded us, "Never let a Good Crisis, go to waste!"

YouTube - Rahm Emanuel: You never want a serious crisis to ...
"You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. And what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before."

The White House chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, let the cat out of the bag when he said, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste — and what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things that you didn’t think you could do before.”

Don't shoot the messager...
And as I stated we are always First on the crisis, and usually last to leave, but we are told that "The WORLD HATES U.S." and nothing we (U.S.) do or don't do will NEVER change that... I Say B.S.

I totally agree, but I fear that this is only the beginning.

Back on topic, while I can discuss news without discussing politics, it can be hard to prevent it from bubbling to the top. Heck, with global warming, even the weather becomes political.
I go out with one couple and they always make it clear they don't want to talk politics, but then they proceed to talk about their local politics. Since they live in Denver, the politicians are all Dem and they talk about who is more liberal and of like mind with them

That's your problem, you don't care if everyone in Japan gets roasted by a multiple nuclear plant meltdown" actually talk like that in real life?

Because I seriously can't imagine what a drag it would be to go out to dinner with someone who started ranting about my politics every time I asked him or her to pass the salt. Or threw in some slur about my politics if the room was too hot or the steak was too cold.

Not everything is about politics, in fact the only thing that is about politics is politics. A disaster is a disaster, not an opportunity to sling stupid insults at each other. It makes some of you look seriously deranged when you do that.

I couldn't agree more AV. Politics may have its place, but we have to know when to leave it behind and consider ourselves members of the human race.

I have to say the Japanese have been incredibly courageous through this. No looting, helping each other.

I was sick watching the politicians and people go on TV during Katrina blaming each other including the President and saying we all hate certain 'races' through the whole thing.

But that video above looks so selfish right now. Just think what they could be doing with their time to help the people who are in this situation.
Dumb and a waste of precious time.

This will all get worked out later with the nuclear stuff. Freaking stupid in my eyes. This is what happens during precedented disasters. You cannot be prepared for everything. Cost vs. practicality. And whether anyone wants to admit it or not, this could have been even worse. Their building tech is some of the best in the world and the earthquake itself could have killed many more.

That's why my concern for the left coast...
We(U.S)couldn't be as kind, and understand, if we survived at all.
Look what happened when the verdict of a trail, came out the “wrong” way per some folks riots, HELL, there’s riots when a sports team wins/loses.
Think folks would pull together?
Sorry, but I fear that it will be everybody for themselves/families/friends, and F**K everybody else, we’ve seen it, we are not learning from history, some are spitting on it, others are rewriting it, and yet others ignore it, but it seems that very few are remembering it and just what happened, the how’s & whys… Sorry gotta go…
