One Gulf Oil Spill Source Found But Slicks May Be Spreading

The Times Picayune is reporting that a Houston based company, Anglo-Suisse Offshore Partners, has taken responsibility for leaking Louisiana crude from a non-producing well that has contaminated Louisiana coastal beaches and wetlands and created a slick that spread for miles offshore....[AGAIN]

The newspaper earlier reported that state officials had fingered work being done to the Anglo-Suisse's non-producing oil well near Southwest Pass of the Mississippi River as the likely source, calling it a "well capping out of control." Anglo Suisse Offshore Partners released a statement last night confirming it was the source of the spill, but that it was "surprised" that its dormant well could have released that much oil, according to the paper. The Times Picayune reported the well was being capped for permanent abandonment and that the operators told the Coast Guard it had been leaking only small amounts of oil.

National networks are also covering the story as incredulous residents are once again dealing with an oil threat that could damage this year's fishing and tourist seasons. Grand Isle shrimp buyer Dean Blanchard told MSNBC that fishermen had reported oil slicks were as large as 100 miles. "One guy said he was in it for 8 to 10 hours." See the MSNBC report here.

Government and independent investigations are continuing to determine the extent of the new oil slicks and their impacts on coastal environments. Meanwhile residents here once again are watching cleanup workers placing fresh protective boom along sensitive areas of the coastline. Many are finding it hard to believe that nearly a year after the worst offshore oil disaster in history, they are once again battling a new wave of oil threatening their shores.

Fire Salazar! And he said he was going to clean up those offshore oil companies!

So nuclear is bad, oil is bad, coal is bad, natural gas is bad (drilling for it anyway),...so fire up those Cninese windmills and solar panels...we'll all be safe then.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

But, windmills kill birds... Think of the poor little birdies!

Just one simple question. Who is at fault in this Outrage of the Day? Is it still Bush' fault or can we now lay the blame on this administration? Just trying to figure out what you are trying to tell us.

Wouldn't the oil company be at fault? Why does it have to be the government, unless we want to blame lack of regulation and oversight. For decades we have been told to trust companies, they really do have our best interests at heart.....yeah right. I have no problem with companies making profits and rewarding us with jobs and keeping investors happy, but not at the expense of safety to both their workers and to this country. Oil spills cost money.....our money.....it's time the companies that cause these spills are held accountable as we did with BP, (sorta).......you make a mess, you pay to clean it up, plus penalties. Maybe then they will take safety seriously.

Thank you for saving me the trouble of answering...

It's not always about Rep or Dem...It's about corporate slime not taking responsibility for their messes. It seems profits are private, and clean up is public.

:rofl

You get such a kick out of dragging out that quote (out of context, of course) even when it doesn't remotely apply. I will take it that you don't have a clue what you are talking about and are trying to muddy the waters because you have no reasonable response.

The topic....in case you haven't read it yet....is the current oil spill......not tomahawk missles or Brazil....please try to keep up nmysys and address the current topic, not dance off onto some tangent because you can't think of anything to add to the discussion. Do you even have an opinion on this oil spill? If not, what is gained by throwing out stuff that has no relevance??????

I have stayed away from this board for a while because there seems no possibility of having a discussion here. Everytime I read a topic here, after one or two posts it turns into an opportunity to hurl insults.

Have a good day nmysys, I'll check back in a few days, or weeks, or maybe months. Life is too short to waste it on stuff like this.

You can stay away or return, that is your right, but since you won't address it, I will. I just called you a Hypocrite for picking and choosing when it being our money makes a difference. Instead of replying you use the opportunity to attack me. In case you haven't noticed yet Archer, I have stopped attacking, using foul language, etc. Instead I have just actually been pretty even handed, but I will not allow you to be hypocritical without calling you on it.

This oil spill is no different than the Big one a few months ago that was made into such a big deal by you and the rest of the Left, the media, the Administration, Salazar, etc. Until this little incident came along for LJ and you to complain about, there was hardly a trace from the Ecological Disaster that was turned into a daily dosage by the media so Obama could extort Billions from BP. The real Ecological disaster is in Japan, not this!!! But using LJ's own words, this the Leftists Outrage of the Day to take eyes off the Obama Doctrine!!!!
